The "Band" plays on in this follow-up to the chart-topping, peripheral swapping Rock Band. Once again up to four friends can jam together on drums, lead vocals, guitar, and bass as they choose from a number of licensed songs from rock's biggest artists. The "World Tour" mode from the first game expands to new venues and now includes the ability to embark on a solo bass tour in addition to gigs with the other instruments. This mode is also no longer as restrictive, allowing friends to join in or leave at any time, custom characters to switch instruments, and more. Perhaps the biggest new addition for competitive musicians is the "Battle of the Bands" mode. Various challenges are continuously updated online that involve testing your rhythmic skills in themed events. These could involve trying to break a high score on a particular song, complete a series of riffs, and so forth. Bands will be able to see the target score to beat from another band and can continue to play a particular challenge until it's mastered. Challenges will disappear over time as well, with some lasting mere minutes or more difficult ones appearing for months. Other new features include more character creation items, from faces and costumes to accessories and piercings, a jukebox option, a revamped "Tutorials" mode with in-depth drum training, and more. Rock Band 2 owners can use the same peripherals introduced with its predecessor, or they can upgrade their gear with the all-new bundle. Refinements to the equipment include velocity-sensitive drum pads, metal-reinforced kick pads, softer button clicks, more responsive strum bars, and support for expansion slots for add-ons like cymbals. Rock Band 2 ships with an 84-song library and offers the option to import tracks and downloaded content from the original Rock Band. Featured tracks include "White Wedding Pt. 1," "Kids in America," "Everlong," "Ace of Spades," "Any Way You Want It," "Pinball Wizard," "Aqualung," and "Ramblin' Man." Making their music game debut are legendary artists AC/DC and Bob Dylan. As with the original title, Rock Band 2 supports individual track and album downloads to expand your interactive music library.

Rock Band 2 (beware of new, but incomplete)
After buying The Beatles: Rock Band I decided to try out the other Rock Band products a bit. I own all the Guitar Hero games for Wii since GH III, and was looking for more things to jam on. The game itself is very good, and the DLC (downloadable content) far exceeds what I found available through my GH products. DLC makes these games for me because I can be selective and my Rock Band library is growing by the week. Accessing DLC and some of my favorite tunes on GH is problematic, certain songs cannot be carried over to the newer games due to licensing etc... In Rock Band 2 they eventually release songs from add-on packs to the DLC list, so the listings are much larger and varied. *** A note on the purchase of Rock Band 2 for me. Great, but not excellent
Rockband 2 for the wii is a great game no real complaints at all. it plays all the songs well, and its a great time with your friends. the only thing that is upsetting about it is the graphical quality. normally i am not a graphics guy to begin with, but after playing the 360 version you can definitely see a change in detail. not letting it bother me though because the game is fun no matter as long as you have friends to rock out with. just make sure you have someone who is willing to sing. Best game ever, but done better on other systems
I have both Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2 for Xbox 360 and am completely addicted to it! I bought this Rock Band 2 game for the Wii for a friend who shared in my love for the game, however she did not have an Xbox 360 or PS3. Although RB1 was easier to find and cheaper, RB2 was my obvious game of choice because the instruments are much improved (drums quieter, more bounce, better feel/more comfortable to play). Also RB1 lacked the ability to connect online to download new song content and also lacked the ability to play against others online. RB2 has many improvements and additions to their game interface, including improved character customization, the ability to use one character for any instrument instead of making 4 characters, one for each role. Also there is a drum trainer mode, ... I have both Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2 for Xbox 360 and am completely addicted to it! Being an amateur drummer, I was really excited to use the drum trainer to practice beats to the metronome and have the ability to play it faster/slower and to my own music! Other forums have more about the added/improved features, but those are just a few that stand out to me personally. RB on Wii is a little more of a hassle because the songs from RB1 do not transfer over to RB2 like the Xbox 360 or PS3 version. Also downloading songs would require an extra storage device. Other than that, gameplay and instruments are the same. The only reason to purchase RB1 would just be if you are in love with the songs because that's all the disc is good for. Overall, I would rate Rock Band 2 for Wii with high ratings because I have already spent countless Rock Band Sessions with friends and alone and have still not lost interest. Despite some of the drawbacks of being on the Wii system, Rock Band 2 still has the same features as the other systems, just more hoops to jump over, which if the Wii is the only system you have, then it's still very much worth it, especially over Rock Band 1 for the Wii. Great Wii game if you're a music fan & like to jam out. When friends come over "Wii" bust out the rockband. It's all in good fun
