Product Information

Blending high-speed races and dynamic crashes along with a cinematic storyline, FlatOut comes to the PS2 with a number of features designed to set it apart from previous racing titles. Players can leave their car before entering a race to check out the competition at the pit areas, glean some information at the local bar, perform tune-ups, and embark on brief missions to further the story. The heart of the game is the racing competition, where players hit the pedal to the metal on a variety of outdoor venues. The environment is also interactive, to the point where cars can smash through wooden barriers, send piles of stacked tires bouncing along the road, and knock orange cones flying into the distance. A number of jumps are also available, to catch some air.<br><br>Real-time damage modeling is another highlight in FlatOut, with details such as engines, transmissions, and the driver viewable after smashing, crashing, and bashing into rival vehicles. Each part is designed to dent, crumple, crack, or fly off, and parts hurtling through the air can damage other vehicles as well. A total of 16 cars are available to drive, each with varied handling and characteristics based on their real-life counterparts. Up to eight vehicles can compete simultaneously on one of 45 courses, and players have the option to either repair or purchase new cars in between each race. Multiplayer options support split-screen and linked play as well as Internet competition via the Xbox Live broadband service.

    smash up fun

    I got tired of Pro Street Need for Speed so I bought this on Ebay. I like the fact that you can destroy cars and track obstacles and get rewarded. The next race everything is repaired. Takes a while to get used to the oversteer on the dirt tracks but upgrades and practice help. I think the key is to run one race several times after you get the hang of it to build up cash, then do some upgrades and move on. The only drawback that I find is that you can't save replays. The variety of cars and tracks is pretty good. I can't quite get the hang of throwing the driver out of the car in the bowling and dart games but more practice will help. It is pretty addicting if you like being automotive destruction. I wouldn't pay full price for any game but this one is worth it if you can find an Ebay ...

    Flat Out (PS2)

    Fun, smash-it-up racin' action. More freedom to drive off track than most driving games. A good amount of items to destroy. Game play is pretty straight forward, upgrades etc. Cars resemble demo derby cars and can be smashed up pretty good, unlike most driving games. Driving dynamics could be better and are a bit frustrating, I would prefer a more realistic approach. Music can be a bit much, some of it is a bit of "scream" rock. Probably not a good buy at full price, but if you can get it at a discount definately worth it if you enjoy destruction racing

    A fun game for two people to play

    I purchased this game because the music was fun, especially the song that plays when the playstation boots the game, and because it is just plain an all around fun game for me to play with my little brothers when they come up to visit. It offers decent 2 player action with decent graphics and the controller is fairly easy to figure out. I'm a fan of the Twisted Metal series of games, particulary the versions made for the original playstation. This game has the same kind of draw to it for me, only the music is a lot more fun and the graphics are better.

    If you like racing games you will need to add this to your Ps2 racing collection.

    flatout

    My husband and 5 year old son love this game. We are going to be getting flatout 2 soon. It has many different games to play. You can race around a track, drag race and crash into other cars, or you can launch your person from the car into a target. I don't play the game myself, but I do love to watch them play because they always have so much fun.
