AROUND THE BEND teams up the dream cast of Michael Caine (Henry Lair), Christopher Walken (Turner), Josh Lucas (Jason), and Jonah Bobo (Zack) as the ultimate patriarchy, four generations of men in a family that has been torn apart for thirty years. Henry, an archaeologist obsessed with digging for both ancient objects and inner secrets, is dying, and he has beckoned for Turner to join them. The only problem is that Turner has been missing from their life since a terrible accident, having spent many of the intervening years in jail. He has not seen his son in three decades, and he has never met his grandson. But when Henry dies, his exhaustive last request is planned out at a series of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in New Mexico, forcing the next three generations of Lair men to spend time together reevaluating life, love, and family. They travel in Turner's bruised and battered VW Bus, blasting music out of an eight-track-tape player, trying to maintain their sanity for the sake of young Bobo, who is the only one seemingly excited about the journey. Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Jordan Roberts, AROUND THE BEND is a poignant drama of fathers and sons, of family secrets, of running away, and just maybe of forgiveness. The acting is solid throughout, including the terrific Glenne Headly as Henry's Swedish home caretaker, and there is just the right mix of comedy and drama, music and dialogue to make this a winning debut.

I bought this on the recommendation of a friend--I had never heard of it. It has a strange story line, but some good moments. It's good, but not great...a little too maudlin for me.

Great grandfather, grandfather, father,and son with a incredible story of life brought together through death. This is not a morbid, horror flick, this is a incredible story of the lives of these individuals. I laughed and I cried. Rated R for laguage, this is a staple in your collection. Around the Bend
I grew up in New Mexico and it was like a great road trip. This is a feel good movie, great acting and probably could be called a "sleeper." The music is great. I have the soundtrack from the movie and I listen to it over and over. It is great to see a movie where there is not a lot of sex and violence. The movie has been on TV a lot and I have watched it several times. I saw it on TV first and decided I really wanted to own it.I grew up in New Mexico and it was like a great road trip.
