Take Two's NHL 2K series continues on PlayStation 2 with revamped player graphics, updated faces, and even new player-specific equipment. While the presentation is the most obvious change in NHL 2K8, a number of other enhancements are included. The goaltending AI of previous games has been scrapped in favor of a new system that incorporates more dynamic, situation-specific behaviors instead of predictable, pre-defined routines. The animations have changed accordingly, as goalies now guard the post, perform dramatic butterfly saves, leave the crease to challenge puck handlers, and more. <br><br>Other significant features include a revamped control scheme built around the right analog stick, a different face-off system, and a franchise mode with added layers of depth. Waivers, two-way contracts, salary caps, holdouts, free agents, a player progression system, and an improved off-season are just a few of the details would-be GMs must deal with. All other game modes from previous titles are available in NHL 2K8, from the option to create custom athletes to competing online. Online players have a special incentive to show off their hockey skills: by entering the official Dodge-sponsored NHL 2K8 tournament, players can win a new car.

NHL 2k8 (playstation 2)
Ok.. so i must say, im a big NHL 2k sports fan. Primarily hockey. I have nhl 2k4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. I did like that this years game had alot more features.. a better franchise mode.. (which i enjoy playing) im not really a big fan of how complicated this game has become. The controls are a little different (which i didnt like) the game just seems a little more difficult to control things. You have to press 2 differnet buttons to do a snap shot.. etc... There seems to be less enforcers... The superstar moves are pretty cool... not too hard to do... from my experience.. they hardly work.. you have to do them perfectly... all in all.. not a bad game.. i however.. am gonna stick to NHL 2K6.. thats been my favorite game thus far...Ok.. so i must say, im a big NHL 2k sports fan. Some things never change
NHL 2K8, like all of the other ESPN/2K games can be a lot of fun.....however, nothing much changes year to year, other than the rosters. That is probably the reason that these games are so inexpensive when new, at around $20. Each follows the same basic format, with minor tweaks, so that each years edition for any sport, be it hockey, baseball, football or basketball, looks and plays remarkably similar to the previous editions. They are even similar across sports, so that menu screens, for example, look nearly identical. NBA 2K6's menus look like those of MLB 2K7, or NFL 2K4. It's great for continuity, and it allows 2K games to spend the money where it counts, in the actual game play, but it almost makes buying each years new game unnecessary, unless the league expands or moves teams ...
