No stranger to walking corpses, Capcom unearths another zombie-themed franchise with Dead Rising on Xbox 360. Players take command of a forceful photographer named Frank West, who believes he is on the verge of a breakthrough story at a remote suburban town called Willamette. Yet this is no ordinary visit. West soon learns that the unfriendly locals aren't just wary of the media -- they're hungry for flesh. Players must somehow find a way past hordes of zombies lining the aisles of the one place thought by West to be safe: a shopping mall. He was obviously wrong, but it's up to players to keep him from being <I>dead</I> wrong.<br><br>Unlike the carefully scripted games in the Resident Evil series, Dead Rising features a more open-ended, action-oriented design where players can freely explore the various mall stores to use whatever tools, weapons, or items they find, from frying pans and umbrellas to lawn mowers and bowling balls. Time keeps ticking away as players search for potential survivors as well as a way out, with the zombies growing stronger as the sun goes down and certain events only occurring at specific intervals. This was my 2nd attempt to get this game from eBay, as my 1st attempt (not from this seller) didn't work since the game crashed at a certain point. Thankfully, however, this 2nd one I got seems to work fine so far, so I can definitely say this is working fine!

All it's cracked up to be
This game is everything I had hoped it would be. Gameplay is fairly smooth and controls are accurate. The aiming system could have used some work, it is difficult to manipulate, and the controls are different for the camera and the gun(or any other projectile objects). A similarity of control for these two major facets of the game would dramatically improve gameplay. The usable weapons in the game (of which there are hundreds, nay, thousands) all have a unique feel and timing to master which keeps plowing through the thousands of enemies interesting and entertaining. The graphics are excellent, especially considering the quantity of objects and enemies on the screen. The draw distance is a little short for some of the environments, making some characters pop out of nothing as you approach ... This game is everything I had hoped it would be. Sounds.. .well they're there. Voiceovers are unique and well done, but not nearly used enough. The game's mission assignment system, which utilizes the cell phone to call in orders (ala GTA San Andreas) uses nothing but subtitles, which can be difficult to read when you are trying to keep track of the zombie hordes that are quickly closing in. Voiceovers on the cell phone calls in addition to the subtitling would add a lot of quality to these mission assignments. Overall this game is a great value. It can be replayed with various modes and your previous characters transferred back into your new games. There are enough side missions and easter eggs to warrant at least a couple of playthroughs. As always, Xbox 360 games are overpriced, and at 60.00 this makes a pricey (but very worthwhile) addition to any collection.

A Great Idea, A Few Flaws!!
Dead Rising pits you against a horde of endless flesh eating, blood chilling, glowing eyed zombies!!! In the game you play as a reporter that flies into a small town that is being quarantined for undisclosed reasons, only to find himself trapped in a mall with more zombies than he ever wanted to meet!! The game is played in third person and gives you the once in a lifetime opportunity to stab zombies with coat hangers, mow them down with a lawn mower, chop them into little pieces with a battle axe, slice through them with a sword, or blow them away with a full arsenal of guns!! It's fun to play, easy to pick up and never gets old!! You'll soon find yourself enjoying the art of finding new and even more incredible ways of destroying all the zombies you can get your hands on!! You may even ... The save system is also hard to use, you have to locate restrooms throughout the mall in order to save!! And if you die on your way there, it's either back to your last save, or you can save your status (your level[including health addons and learned stills]) but if you do save your status you're sent allll the way back to day one minute one!!! Over all it's an extremely fun game, and once you've finished the story it's just you and a mall and an entire play group of zombies!!! Sure it could use some multi-player, but aside from that it still has incredible replay value!! A great buy for any zombie lover!! :) Enjoy!!!

Great Xbox360 Title, But No Resident Evil
Deadrising is a great game about a horde of mall zombies and one persons conquest to take over the world. The game however has it's own set of positives and negatives. Positives: You can use pretty much anything you see as a weapon! The game is freeflowing in that you can pretty much go where you want at anytime. Also, if you do die, you can start the game over with all your experience from the previous game. And the best part.....ZOMBIES! Negatives: Some of the weapons in the game are slow moving, meaning in may take a few seconds to actually swing the darn things. While the game is free flowing you only have a few days to get thru the mall or the game is over. Along with that, there is only ONE save slot so if you save too far from an objective then your pretty much screwed and start ... Dawn of the Dead Rising
First off I decided to buy the game for practice when the zombie apocalypse happens. I got the game long after it was out and on here for cheap! The idea of the game is great; you're Frank West a hard nosed free lance journalist who travels to Willamette, Colorado where you end up in the city mall which is filled with zombies (and psychos) and you get to use just about everything laying around to kill/thwack them. There is a good plot that's resident evil-esque and the game is setup to resemble a B movie. There is a lot that can be done, you can kill zombies, fight psychos, rescue various people who are trapped in the mall just waiting to be eaten, take pictures, eat mall food, try on all sorts of clothes, and more! The two things you have to do are escape by getting to the helipad on ... First off I decided to buy the game for practice when the zombie apocalypse happens. The controls of the game are par in that you can maneuver well and, with a little practice, get the button combos for Frank's special moves. I didn't like that your items and weapons are in the same slots so if you mashing buttons to beat down some zombies with a baseball bat and it breaks you use the next item in your inventory which may be a pizza--which you will stand there and eat--or a magazine--which you will stand there and read, neither of these help when you are surrounded by zombies. The games also runs on a time clock that runs GTA style in which game time runs like 50 times faster than real time. This add to the game play in that you can't just sit around in one spot until you're bored but it also prevents you from exploring and it makes the game a lot harded if you try to rescue the other people trapped in the mall. The people you try to rescue range from almost capable to sheer idiots to injureds who you must carry. If you try to be a saint you will have a hard time completing the cases (which you must complete) on time. You boss battles consist of defeating various psychos who are inhabiting the mall. With some leveling, proper weapons, and a little planning you can take these nuts out with only a little difficulty. You level up in the game by gaining prestige points (PP) for completing tasks like saving victims, defeating bosses, and completing cases and by using your 30 shot (30 shots what it is this 1998) digital camera to take pictures of journalistic worth. Because of the save system, which only has one slot but allows you to keep your character level and restart, you will be playing this game several times over if you want to get fully leveled and save all the people. Overall I loved it and am still playing it today!

XBOX 360 Dead Rising-Great but not perfect
Do you like the idea of being able to grab any item imaginable (And yes literally just about any item imaginable) in a mall and using it as a weapon? Killing thousands upon thousands of zombies sound like a good way to kill some time? If you answered yes to these questions, then this game is for you! This game does have difficult (VERY difficult without the right weapons) bosses, tight deadlines, and the annoying ringing telling you of additional maniacs, trapped people & general information. Personally if you aren't one that likes to be rushed, I'd recommend just running around and not necessarily worrying about the main quest the first time through. You can do many others, get familiar with the various locations and bountiful selection of weapons, and really get to know where items ... The game is all about time-sensitive quests and missions and it is literally impossible to do all of them in one setting. The great thing is, you can restart the game with your same character with the current level you've achieved. Sounds great, right? Well....mostly. Bad news is you only have one save on your profile. So if you start a new game and decide you want to play the one you had been playing....sadly it is gone. But this is only really a problem for those that want to blow through the game. It takes many hours to cover every single location and to experiment with every single weapon and I highly recommend an experiment in your first run or two just to get use to everything the game has to offer. Also, you can only save your game in a few physical locations in the mall. It can be a pain, because sometimes you'll lose important time running to a save point just so that you can keep your game to continue later. When you are ready to go for the main storyline, my suggestion is DO NOTHING ELSE. If you miss one of those time-sensitive deadlines I mentioned earlier you will have to restart the ENTIRE game as you locked out of future events within the storyline. However the game doesn't just end, you can still play, you just can't complete the main storyline. Dead Rising is a fantastic concept, but the time constraints do hamper the enjoyablility of the game at times. It is the EXACT opposite of a game like Elder Scrolls (which rocks!), where you can get a quest and come back months later in gameplay time on what sounds like a time sensitive event, and still do it as if there were no time missed at all. It would be nice to have more time to get through the main quest (I still haven't, but I still enjoy the game). I know some will find the game to be difficult and also unnerving in the boss difficulty, the time constraints, and the annoyance at times to be much farther from your next save location or far from a weapon you want/need. Still, while not the deepest game, it does offer some variety, and a very solid challenge for the hardcore gamer. If you are a game completest and want to do everything a game has to offer, this will put you to the test, but can be done with several playthroughs. The game isn't for everyone but even the casual gamer will have many hours of enjoyability just roaming the mall and finding zombies that need that extra special attention that only you and your chainsaw, katana, sledgehammer, scythe, (or other weapon of choice) can provide. Overall, not a perfect game, but still pretty solid.
