(Dolly PartonProbably no one in the long history of country music was 'Born to Sing' more than Connie Smith. She stands alongside Patsy Cline as the best pure singer the music has yet produced. Discovered by Bill Anderson in West Virginia, Connie Smith became a star overnight when her recording of Bill Anderson's Once A Day shot to Number One on the country charts in 1964 (the first debut single by a female singer ever to do so).This 4-CD set includes all of Connie Smith's RCA recordings from July 1964 to September 1967. It not only includes Once A Day, but all the great early hits: Then And Only Then, Tiny Blue Transistor Radio, If I Talk To Him, Nobody But A Fool, Cincinnati Ohio, Ain't Had No Lovin', The Hurtin's All Over, I'll Come Running, and Burning A Hole In My Mind. This set also includes Connie Smith's early LPs: 'Connie Smith,' 'Cute 'n' Country,' 'Miss Smith Goes To Nashville,' 'Great Sacred Songs,' 'Connie In The Country,' 'Downtown Country,' 'Sings Bill Anderson,' and 'Born To Sing. ' Her French session is also included.The cream of Nashville songwriters wanted their songs interpreted by Connie Smith, and here are some of the greatest early works of Bill Anderson, Dallas Frazier, Harlan Howard, Willie Nelson, as well as superlative musicianship from steel guitarist Weldon Myrick, guitarist Jerry Reed, and the justly acclaimed Nashville A-Team.Connie Smith's life story is told for the first time in Colin Escott's full-length biographical essay, and the set includes many previously unpublished photos from Connie Smith's personal collection, as well as a complete discography.

    You'd Better Love Strings and Background Vocals

    I think Connie Smith is still the best darn Country singer in the world. Her recorded material is penned by some of the greatest songwriters of all time. This boxed set features dozens of Bill Anderson songs and some Dallas Frazier ones too. I bought this boxed set to enjoy listening to Connie sing and to hear the great Steel Guitar playing of Weldon Myrick. The CD's have both but the recordings were done at a time that Country was going Pop. Miss Smith and Mr. Myrick are both covered up in 70% of the material with elaborate string sections and four part oohs and ahhs. Can you say over produced! I wish I had been able to review all the songs before I bought this boxed set. I would have been happier finding the reissues of the early recordings on CD and searched for some of the old ...

    connie smith born to sing 4 cd box set over 120 songs

    connie smith does a great job on all these songs. its nice to hear her sing some songs made famous by others and even does a better job than the original singer. i love this collection !!

    The best!!!

    I had never heard of Connie Smith. I'm so glad I paid the steep price for this, because It's giving me endless hours of enjoyment. She's the real deal and This record company does an amazing job presenting her voice in crystal clear tones. You can buy this recording without reservations if you like real country.
