This Radio/MP3 Player is COOL!
First of all, the color graphics and navigation system are really simple to use. The recording function of live radio programs/music on XM Satellite is easy and fun! The size is perfect, as it can easily fit in a pocket, and the total memory 1GB, even though not the biggest, offers plenty of space for your MP3 songs and satellite recordings. This is a great value as well because the Pioneer Inno appears to cost about 50% more on average, but has the same basic features! First you should understand that I love my XM. I have it in two cars and now a portable as well. So, yes, I'm biased. Lets start with what this is not. It is not made for indoor reception without the "Base antenna" so for those of you complaining about crappy "Walk around" indoor reception, I guess you didn't do your research. BTW, I get fairly good "walkin' around" reception as long as I'm not too far from a south facing window. It is also not made to be clipped low (belt height) while out and about with out the ADDITIONAL PURCHASE of an antenna equipped head set (read the reviews carefully B4 purchase). What is this then? It is an AMAZING selection of music, sports, news, talk and entertainment at your fingertips. Books and stories? got 'em. Dozens (approx) of sports channels? Got 'em. ... Got 'em. rock, country, rap, blues, contemporary, religion, R & B, hip hop, classical, disco, spanish channels, world music, old time radio oprah, 2 kids channels? Got 'em and more. Th controls took me almost no time to figure out (remember, I'm already familiar with XM). New users would do well to read the control instructions. Still all in all, it is easy to operate and navigate. I would like a longer battery life but, it's still not bad. Supplied ear buds are better than I expected, Better ones can be had if your real picky. Home docking station is simple, and the supplied remote is well laid out for use when the Helix is docked. comes with all needed cables for home dock, computer hook up and 110 volt operation while away from the home dock. NO CAR KIT IS INCLUDED so no FM reception via the Helix alone, get over it. DO NOT PURCHASE if you live in or around tall buildings, brick walls of cliffs that block your view of southern skies. It will not work reliably. In conclusion, I recommend it. D, not pay full price (250) to many deals out there to be had. Enjoy In conclusion

I've had a Delphi SkyFi2 for some time now and have upgraded to the Helix. If you are looking for a great portable "mp3" player/recorder this is it. However, if you are familiar with being able to play xm over your fm radio, without the car kit, it is impossible. Also, if you are listening to your favorite channel and happen to miss what was just on and weren't recording it, you can't go back and listen to what you missed. It has a great display and is extremely small. It takes some time learning to navigate through the menu, but a major plus is the 50 hours of recording. Great mp3 player!
It doesn't get much reception unless it's on the dock but that's mostly due to mountains in my area. I knew it probably wouldn't so I just program it to record at night while it's on the dock and listen to recorded XM at work. The recorded XM takes up way less memory than MP3 files and you can actually store a lot of music on it for a 1 Gig mp3 player. Pretty reliable
I got one of these about 5 years go and it lasted until just recently when I had to buy a used replacement on ebay. Pretty reliable, only issue was I put a corrupt mp3 file that caused and unfixable software malfunction. Firmware update is necessary to keep it from losing it's charge, but I liked the portability of it and the radio recording functions.
