ZZ Top - the Studio Albums 1970 - 1990 is a 10 CD boxset of the band's classic studio albums from their Warner Bros. Years. This compact, clamshell boxset features each album in a mini, vinyl replica card sleeve with original artwork, including replicated original gatefold sleeves for Tres Hombres and Tejas. Most importantly the original audio tape versions will finally be available, for the first time, on CD for three of the albums: First Album, Rio Grande Mud, and Tejas, and the original masters for Tres Hombres and Fandango will also be included. Much discussion has been had on the quality of the mixes released on CD in the 1980s but now the original audio will be available once and for all in an amazing boxset!

Just like you remember 'em!!!
ALL the classics....and ALL in original mixes too! I had the ZZ Top "Six Pack" box and when I listened to it.....I thought, "Man,....I guess I just don't like these albums anymore?" (You see, I'd not heard the albums for a few years....Tres Hombres,and Tejas especially). BUT after I bought an old LP of TEJAS recently for it's cover.....I listened to the old vinyl and heard that the mixes of the albums on Six Pack were wrong! Here you get all the LPs in the original mixes in little LP jacket sleeves. The sound is great and the drums are like you remember them on the early LPs. I'm really loving these old LPs I thought I'd lost interest in. Here the band had not only blues influences,but Cajun and quite often a style like a heavier ... ALL the classics....and ALL in original mixes too! I had the ZZ Top "Six Pack" box and when I listened to it.....I thought, "Man,....I guess I just don't like these albums anymore?" Most Excellent CD Collection
Doesn't get better than having 10 hi-fidelity CDs in their original-design mini-album sleeves so I can listen to three amazing rockin' blues musicians playing tight rythymic arrangements that bring harmonic joy to my soul. Just wanna be a sharp dressed man, and I love the beauty of women like some ZZ Top lyrics describe in night club style.

Nice release, but sloppy quality control
This is a barebones box set with cardboard miniature LP replicas. While I suspect most of you will not notice or care, I thought it wise to call out Rhino/Warner on a couple blatant snafus regarding this release. Firstly, all of the first Album, the B-side of Rio Grande Mud, and the A-side of Tejas have their channels reversed. Secondly, the song "Legs" from the "Eliminator" album features the single mix and not the proper album mix. Otherwise the sound on this set is good and features all original mixes. The full evolution of ZZ Top
I bought this set for some of the classic hits of course, but also in the hope of discovering lesser known tracks influenced by the folk-blues origins of Texas music. I was not disappointed ... there are some nice blues tracks scattered throughout these albums.

Great Way To Get All The Early Top In One Package
I'm a big fan of all of ZZ Top's "pre-MTV" era music. This was an easy affordable way for me to get all their albums on CD. The quality of the recordings is what it is but better than it was ;) For the price you cannot go wrong.
