Director Ridley Scott's lush fantasy film stars the young Tom Cruise as Jack, a peasant who lives in an enchanted forest with his beloved Lili (Mia Sara). One day, while quietly gamboling in a glade, the pair is distracted by the appearance of trolls, minions of the evil Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry). The cloven-footed, cavern-dwelling monster, long banished to the earth's nether regions, has sent the creatures on a mission to seize the horn of a unicorn, thereby plunging the planet into a frigid darkness over which he alone will reign. Things go from bad to worse as Lili succumbs to the forces of darkness, and Jack must assemble a motley band of elves to free her from bondage and return sunlight to the earth's surface. Sumptous art direction and overwhelming special effects are once again a testament to Scott's powers of visual invention.

Perfect Title as it is a Legend
I love this fantasy legend set amongst purity, beauty and innocence. It is a story of good vs. evil - light vs. darkness. To my delight, it opens up with a wonderful scene of a beautiful princess with a humble heart so pure that she displays love towards those of less fortune - visiting them and admiring their way of life and the beautiful rain forest. Even though dressed in the finest, she loves the simple things; even loves a poor man named Jack who dwells somewhere in that beautiful rain forest. They both are pure souls. However, critical to keeping the continued existence of light, purity and beauty in the land, the last surviving unicorns must be kept untouched or tampered with, especially not to remove their horns, or all brightness, beauty and goodness will leave the land. ... I love this fantasy legend set amongst purity, beauty and innocence. It is a story of good vs. evil - light vs. darkness. Darkness and bad was lurking nearby to steal away light and purity. Just like in the Bible with the story of Adam and Eve - the woman (princess) was lured to do something that would change all things from good and light, to bad and darkness. So the story unfolds to an ending worthy of seeing. There is nothing that I dislike about this fantasy movie. It was uniquely moving from beginning to end. Also, it is good to see Tom Cruise in his early years.

This is an awesome movie, one of my favorites even. A classic good verses evil movie with goblins, fairies, elves, and a big bull like demonic figure. Were unicorns wonder the earth and it is fulled with magic. Very beautifully done, expecially considering its age. Has a great story and envokes the imagination. I would even say it is safe for children to watch but not very small children (they might get scared by the creatures).
