  • A childhood favorite!

I love this book. It is a childhood favorite, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who looks back fondly at not only the story but the pictures, too. When I was young there were not alot of picture books like they abound today, so it wasn't as easy to find books that were stimulating in that way. It's written simply so any child will understand the problem presented and the author writes with obvious tenderness, but also allows the child to explore dangerous elements within the story at the same time. I love it, not only because of the cute pictures and the tender story, but that it has such a happy and delightful end! This is a winner every way you look at it, I think.

  • A MUST READ FOR EVERY MOTHER AND EVERY CHILD!!!

Loved all the Eastman books but this one especially because it talks of a baby that cannot find its mother and goes about asking all kinds of things ARE YOU MY MOTHER? Little bird asks all he can see from dogs to farm equipment. I remember reading this book to my own two babies and it brings out how important a Mother is. Children love to read it as they get older and always loved hearing it read to them. Puts the importance of knowing who ones Mother is on every living thing. It is wonderful and sad at the same time. I recommend this book for all Mothers to read to their own children and I recommend that all children read this book to themselves. It is an easy understanding for both adults and children alike.

  • Adorable book for toddlers

This was my oldest son's favorite book when he was a little boy. We read it so often I had it memorized and it finally fell apart after several years of repeated readings. So when I found out he and his wife were having their own baby boy I had to get a copy just for him. I wrote a note on the inside cover and used it in place of a greeting card for the baby shower.

  • Our Family Tradition--reading this great book!

I bought this book because it was the FIRST book I learned to read--and always remembered it as such. I passed this tradition down and my daughters enjoyed me reading this to them and reading this book to me. So, I am teaching my grand daughter how to read with this wonderful story as well. This book holds up well over time--a contemporary book to compare it with that would have a similar style is "Is Your Mama a Llama?". In this book a baby bird hatches and through a comedy of errors searches for his mother. It is a teaching aid for its simple text and engaging pictures. The story is so good and yet even a non-reader can surmise the story through the pictures. After being read the story a child can re-tell the story easily because it is that memorable and endearing--and funny--it ...

  • Great bedtime story

I read this at least once daily to my young daughter. It was fun to use different voices for all the different creatures in the story. After many readings, she knew it by heart and would have fun doing the voices herself. Now, many years later, she requested this book to read to her own baby daughter. I was happy to oblige!
