    Pentax *ist DS w/ included 18-55mm lens

    Pros ~small ~quality built/ very sturdy feel ~takes AA batteries (available anywhere and have long life) ~It's a Pentax (myriad of good/cheap lenses available) ~very simple controls- Everything important is there and it is easy to learn to use so you can focus on taking better pictures more than learning how use the camera. Cons ~could make less noisy images ~takes AA batteries (rechargeable AA's usually take longer to charge than Li Ions) ~If the AF can't decide what to focus on it may not even take a picture, but this is rare and limited to very low light conditions ~In high quality image modes, primarily RAW, the buffer time can seem quite long but this is the only DSLR I've used extensively so i'm not sure if that's even abnormal. This is my first DSLR and I'm very glad I picked it. ...

    Pentax IST DL

    It feels a lot like my Pentax MZ-S film camera as far as size and weight. It feels like a real camera and not a plastic toy, works great with my 50mm F 1.7 Pentax lens. The focus however is not as fast as my MZ-S, and I wish it had a proper light meter (it just shows you in EV steps how far under or over exposed the image is. It does feel more like a film camera which is what I was looking for.

    slr camera

    good camra for beginers professional photografers. easy in use good for holding in a hand, my wife love it. Good of using battery , deasn' go so fast. I make abaut 200 picters and battery still good ( using lithum battery) It better than i though i get for low price and used camera.

    Great camera

    I love The small size and weight The ability to use any lens Pentax made on the camera My old M42 screw mount lenses work in Aperture Priority mode! I don't like the batteries, they get costly with 2 Lithium Cr3s or 4 lithium AAs. But I can use rechargeable NiMH AA to cut the cost. If you want to use older manual focus lenses that are optically fantastic this is the way to go. I use an older SMC-a 50mm 1.7 on this camera in P and Av modes and the camera functions flawlessly. I also use M42 macro lenses and I cannot fault their functioning. I really like the ability to use excellent prime glass in a (relatively) modern camera. I also prefer the images from the CCD sensor to the Cmos sensors on newer camera, it looks more film like to me (IMHO). So for half the cost of a new body you ...

    Pentax 1ST DS slr camera, lenses & accessories GREAT!

    After using the simple point & shoot digitals, this Pentax is in a class by itself. Believe used by a pro-photographer in past due to extensive accessories and lens combinations. As such, will take me some time to get up to speed on use application, exposures, and full capacity of all the features. However, also believe this is a camera kit that will not be easily passed by with techno upgrades. In other words will be all the camera I can use and yet in a simple, step by step on screen guide for photo applications. Believe all the components would cost well over $700 new and at less than half, ebay used is the way to go!
