  • A Great Psychological Western With Great Acting & Stars

This 1957 psychological Western starring Glenn Ford as oulaw Ben Wade and Van Heflin as family man Dan Evans is wonderful! Wade and his gang have just robbed a stagecoach carrying gold in Arizona. Unfortunately for Wade, he is caught while having a drink in a bar and while flirting with the owner (Felicia Farr). But the problem is he has to be escorted to Yuma for trial. And who's going to escort him when his gang is ever seeking to have him freed. Dan Evans volunteers for the $200 fee offered by the gold shippers. He is a desperate farmer and cattle owner that has seen everything die due to a severe drought. He has a wife and two sons who adore their father, and part of his motives are to impress his sons. The movie moves quickly to Contention, Arizona, where the pair ...

  • First Rate Unique Western

"3:10 To Yuma" is one of my favorite Westerns. From the opening strains of Frankie Laine singing the title song, the brilliant casting in stars and characters, to Delmer Daves' trademark high camera angles, you will find it interesting from beginning to end and worth re-watching for the subtleties. This may be my favorite Glenn Ford role. He is perfect playing against type as the bad guy. But, he adds a dimension of character and likability to the role. Van Heflin is simply great as the family man - turned hero. He is always worth watching, in any role. Felicia Farr (Mrs. Jack Lemon) is beautiful and sympathetic. The sexuality in this late 1950s film is surprisingly ahead of its time. It could easily have been made in the late 1960 or 1970s. If the song ...

  • Sometimes you can't improve on the original

This was a great flick in the "High Noon" tradition. It was a bit of a stretch for me to accept Glen Ford as a "bad guy" though. I was used to him in so many good guy roles, that it was really different to see him as such a #*(@+#%. Van Heflin was great as the good guy and the supporting cast lent very well to the story. I'll take this original version over the remake every time. (I must admit though, I'm not a big Russell Crow fan)

  • 3:10 from Yuma

While the motion picture has a bit of a slow start, Glenn Ford has a well developed role in the film.

  • good but not great

This movie is fair to partly cloudy .I like it but I like the new one better .the movie was quite slow , if not for Glen ford I probably would not watch it . Glen is a very intense actor, the other guy that has to deliver him to the train is pitiful as an actor .he also sucked in the movie "Shane" . It's not the worst western I've seen, but far from the best . It's probably good to purchase if you want to compare the new against the old . IMO the new wins hands down .
