Product Information

Cora (Madeleine Stowe) and her younger sister, Alice (Jodhi May), both recent arrivals to the colonies, are being escorted to their father, Colonel Munro (Maurice Roeves), by a troop of British soldiers. Along the way they are ambushed by a Huron war party led by Magua (Wes Studi), a sinister warrior with a blood vendetta against Munro. Munro's soldiers are wiped out and Cora herself is nearly killed by Magua but is saved at the last moment by Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), a white trapper raised by the Mohican tribe. Hawkeye promises to take Cora and her sister safely to their father, and along the way Cora and the intense Hawkeye fall in love. Together they must survive wilderness, war, and the relentless pursuit of Magua. Returning to the theme of a great love threatened by overwhelming circumstances, director Michael Mann hits the mark with an adaptation that captures the essence of the book and its historical details perfectly. Day-Lewis and Stowe are beautiful to watch, delivering moving performances as two people trying to hold on to each other in times of war. In addition, the Native American political activist Russell Means makes an oustanding film debut as Chingachgook, Hawkeye's adopted father and last of the Mohicans.

Must watch film
Possibly one of the best films ever. Performances by all actors from Russell Means to Daniel Day Lewis as Hawkeye as well as Madeleine Stowe as Cora Monroe playing opposite to Wes Studi's exceptional depiction of the film's protagonist Magua does not leave one wanting. Studios do not make films with such cinematic experiences beautiful landscapes garnished with the mess of mankind's war.

Great movie
Still a good historical movie, happened in my area but this movie wasn’t filmed here, yet they did a decent job finding a place to replicate it !

A classic adventure
I loved everything about this movie. The acting, scenery and the story were excellent. The unspoken bond between Uncas and the lead actress' sister was superb. Eric Schweig is one of my favorite native American actors along with Graham Greene. The only disappointment was that the dvd did not have any special features on it as regards to the making of the movie as I had visited the area in where it was filmed and it is breathtaking.I loved everything about this movie. The Last of the Mohicans DVD
This was a very good movie, the story based on the history of central NY, although not filmed in NY. So much of what happened in that time period I didn't understand, now I have a better grasp of it. Not known to many, this was based on Randolph Scott's version, this was by far a better interpretation. I grew up 9 miles from the town named after the author, Cooperstown, now live 60 miles from Fort William Henry. My husband was also in the movie he had a non-speaking role, French & British artillery.This was a very good movie, the story based on the history of central NY, although not filmed in NY.
