George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a low-budget, homegrown classic that had great difficulty finding a distributor at the time of its release in 1968, and has since become one of the most influential horror films of all time. (Aside from its visceral impact years before realistic gore became the fashion, the film is also important for its portrayal of a black man as the protagonist during a time when race was an extremely sensitive issue in the United States.) The plot is simple: seven people secluded in a Pennsylvania farmhouse face relentless attacks by reanimated corpses seeking to eat their flesh. The group, which includes a married couple and their daughter, a pair of young lovers, and an African-American man, try to keep their sanity as the living dead keep trying to enter the house. Radio news reports tell of the plague taking over the eastern United States, while the ever-decreasing band of survivors rapidly loses ground in the battle to both keep peace with one another and stay alive.

One of the best Zombie films ever made
Night of the Living Dead is One of the best Zombie films ever made Night of the Living Dead is amazing. It might feature some cheesy performances and very little special effects (it was the 60's) but George A. Romero took an idea and turned it into an instant classic. I still enjoy watching this movie every now and then just to remind myself what started it all and how far we've come. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: If you're a horror fan this is a must buy. If you're just looking to see what all the fuss is about rent this one today. IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
When I think of horror movies this is the first one that comes to mind. It has every thing that is the epitome of the genre, 1) black and white film has just the right "mood" built right in, 2)the helpless, vulnerable character (Barbara)3)Desolate, frightening location (a cemetary on a lonely road), but goes further than most horror movies that proceed it, because it takes a subject that is so far-fetched (people that have recently died coming back to life, and feeding on the flesh of the living)and scientifically gives credibility to the scenario by explaining that this is caused by a virus brought back to earth by a Mars space probe. The word INTRIGUING definately comes to mind. If you don't appreciate black and white movies I am sorry for you, but avoid the colorized version, it takes ... Phenomenal film, great acting , cinematography and story. This movie along with Dawn of the dead are my all time favorite horror movies. You haven't lived until you've seen the dead walk the earth!
