Before it even appeared on the airwaves, NYPD BLUE was television's most controversial show in 1993. The show broke new ground and, like its characters Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) and Detective John Kelly (David Caruso), it didn't play by the rules. Weaving nudity and foul language into storylines that tackled issues such as vigilante violence, homosexuality, and prostitution, the cop series became a huge hit with an audience who craved reality. In Season 3, Detective Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) loses his son in a tragic murder, and falls in love as well. Episodes include "Heavin' Can Wait," "Aging Bull," and "The Nutty Confessor."

NYPD Blue - Season 3
Whilst the constant, almost disarmingly jerky and spasmodic movement of the camera might seem initially offputting, this series fully deserves the acclaim it has received. As the burgeoning relationship between Simone (Jimmy Smits) and Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) develops further into deep friendship, there are plenty of examples of the more inflammatory nature of both individuals as they clash over principles - which serve only to make the series even more compelling. The smell of testosterone that lingers over the predominantly male squad is wonderfully offset by some of the more tender moments, as Sylvia's pregnancy is closely monitored. For a series that has never been afraid to sail very close to the wind, the storylines border on the downright obtrusive at times, but the ability to ... Few directors at the time, never mind in the more politically-correct days we are currently in, would have dared to tackle issues such as lesbianism - and probably even fewer would have moved on into the actual "turning" of one. While a great number of TV shows would claim to deal with "the real world", or "actual family life", many still fall far short into an idealised, we-always-seem-to-have-money scenarios that are played out so many times a week on our screens. Thank goodness for a series that sits up right in your face and almnost dares you into dealing with it.

Also, you'll see each gripping episode and who in the cast wears the Emperor's clothes for a oh so brief but tantalizing second... Each week viewers see the gritty reality of life in a New York City Police unit that apparently only employs officers who like to show off their derriere. As the officers go about their work with a grim determination and sometimes a smile on their cheeks...Two partners, Detectives Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) and John Kelley (David Caruso) (later replaced by Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits)), are the central disrobing characters in this weekly police drama, ... One of my Top 3 cop shows of all time!
I bought this boxed set of NYPD Blue, Season 3, because I missed watching good quality TV. I wanted to be able to sit down on my sofa, and be entertained by excellently-acted story lines, great camera work, and filler music that gets your attention. All I can say about NYPD Blue (hats off to Steven Bochco and David Milch) is that the stories and dialogue were Great, the casting was Great, the presentation was Great. If there was a TV Hall of Fame, this show would be in it. The stuff on TV nowadays is very pale by comparison. Actually, there is no comparison. Great price for a show I love to watch
Although I've seen all of season three on re-runs, it was nice to get to watch three or four episodes at one time without the interuptions. One thing I did miss was this was not a full edition, no special features; but it was still great to watch. It'll be nice to get the other seasons, but just to have a great TV show that I can sit down and watch anytime, catch my favorite episode or just veg out once in awhile is a good feeling.Although I've seen all of season three on re-runs, it was nice to get to watch three or four episodes at one time without the interuptions. There is nothing as entertaining as watching NYPD. Watched live when it first came out, rewatched all seasons when in reruns now years later watching again. Superb writing, engaging characters and never seems dated.
