Director Andrew Adamson gives a new dimension to C.S. Lewis's enchanting story with this long-awaited Disney adaptation. As the story begins, Mrs. Pevensie--in order to keep her children safe during World War II--sends Lucy (Georgie Henley), Edmond (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell), and Peter (William Moseley) off to stay at a professor's country estate. Away from London and under the care of a strict housekeeper, they are instructed to stick to themselves and stay out of trouble. But when an innocent game of hide-and-seek leads young Lucy to a spare room containing a large wardrobe, she discovers something that will change their lives forever. Inside the wardrobe there is a world frosted with ice and filled with magical beings. Known as Narnia, the land is stuck in eternal winter at the hands of the cruel White Witch, played with great force by the pale, strong-featured Tilda Swinton. When she steps back into reality, Lucy struggles to convince her skeptical siblings of the things she's seen. After much disbelief, the others finally enter the world as well, learning that the creatures of Narnia have long been waiting for humans like themselves to appear and break the witch's spell. But in order to be of any help to the lovable talking beavers, fawns, foxes, and centaurs that they meet, the four will have to face betrayal by one of their own as Edmond cracks under the witch's tempting offer of unlimited Turkish Delights. Under the leadership of the great lion Aslan (voice of Liam Neeson), can Lucy, Edmond, Susan, and the oldest, Peter, prove themselves heroes in the ultimate battle of good vs. evil? High-budget special effects, impressive performances by the film's young newcomers, and beautiful set design move this film far beyond previous television adaptations.

Best Movie Ever!!!
I am a 45 year old wife and mother of 5. I first saw this movie a couple of years ago and within the last year I have watched it over and over again. This movie has become my favorite movie and it doesn't matter how many times I watch it, it's always as if it were the first time. I love all the children who play the main characters but I must say Lucy is my favorite. She is so cute and very talented for her age and even though Edmond started out as the evil brother, after looking at this movie so many times you really can tell he is also an excellent actor. And just when I thought this movie couldn't get any better, I ended up buying a bluray player and had to have this movie on bluray. Well to my surprise, the bluray version made me fall inlove with this movie all over again. The ... I am a 45 year old wife and mother of 5. Too often when a well-loved book is made into a movie, the screenwriters take such liberties with the characters and plot that the story is changed almost beyond recognition. Not so with this movie version of the beloved book by C.S. Lewis. The actors were well-chosen; the script was excellent; and the special effects were quite believable. As the story goes, the White Witch has taken possession of Narnia with her black magic. Ruthless and cruel, she reigns as a tyrant throughout the land, where, because of her dark powers, "It's always winter, but never Christmas." Asland, the Lion, returns just as the prophecy about the "Four Sons of Adam and Four Daughters of Eve" have slipped into Narnia through a magical wardrobe. The school-age children can't conceive of themselves as monarchs -- ... Thankfully, the screenwriters remained true to the original story which was, of course, an allegory. The special effects were sometimes breathtaking, with mythical creatures like fawns, centaurs, dwarfs, and elves, as well as talking beavers and animals of all sorts. There were no unnecessary elements: foul language or unnecessary violence -- although there are battle scenes which might be just a little bit scary for younger children -- nor any type of inappropriate innuendo. Just a clean, wholesome story of Good versus Evil. This movie (and its sequel, Prince Caspian) became an instant success with our whole family. In fact, we promised ourselves to buy the DVD, even as we were walking out of the theater.

This production captures the essence of Lewis's Chronicles. Telling the story of four English children temporarily placed in a safer environment to get away from German bombing only to find themselves fighting to save the citizens and kingdom of Narnia. The story of sacrifice and redemption is not left out; Aslan sacrifices his life in order to redeem Edmond's. It is symbolic of a GREATER love and sacrifice. Watching it on Blu-ray was a treat for my eyes -- such vivid detail. I highly recommend both the Blu-ray and the movie. It is great family entertainment and a positive way to stimulate family discussion about attributes such as love, courage, and forgiveness. Don't wait to see any other future movies from the Chronicles -- read the books. You won't be disappointed. I also ... This production captures the essence of Lewis's Chronicles.
