Chicago II
In 1970 I was a student at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. In February, 1970 I attended a concert by "The Chicago Transit Authority" at McGonigle Hall. I had seen them perform at the "Third Quaker City Rock Festival" in Oct. 1969. I went with a classmate of mine, Mike Bezak, because we both loved their music on their first album. Mike was musician (guitar and banjo) and really liked Terry Kath's playing. I was intrigued with their use of horns and Kath's guitar work. That night turned out to be special because it was the first time they would play music from the new album, Chcago (II). It was great. A real experience to hear new music played for the first time live (I would experience the same thing in August 1971 when The Who came to Phila. and ... At one of those concerts at Kutztown State College (now university) I was slightly stoned. When Jimmy Pankow (trombone) said they were going to play "The Road" I jumped out up out of my seat and yelled "Alright!" and Pankow said "OK man just keep sittin' there!" I've never forgotten that. So I guess you could say I was a Chicago freak then. After Terry Kath was killed the band took a different direction and I didn't care for their music after that. But the first three (3) albums and the live at Carnagie Hall album were excellent.

The Chicago Transit Authority recorded this double-barreled follow-up to their eponymously titled 1969 debut effort. The contents of Chicago II (1970) underscore the solid foundation of complex jazz changes with heavy electric rock & roll that the band so brazenly forged on the first set. The septet also continued its ability to blend the seemingly divergent musical styles into some of the best and most effective pop music of the era. Musically, James Pankow (trombone) was about to further cross-pollinate the band's sound with the multifaceted six-song "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon." The classically inspired suite also garnered the band two of its most beloved hits — the upbeat pop opener "Make Me Smile" as well as the achingly poignant "Color My ... The Chicago Transit Authority recorded this double-barreled follow-up to their eponymously titled 1969 debut effort. Review Of Chicago II CD
This is the ultimate Chicago recording. The music contained within it's two LP's, or CD's capture the essence, and spirit of Chicago. It also contains a very beautiful love song my wife, and I have called ours for the 35 years we've known each other just as I'm sure thousands of other couples have done the same. I've also enjoyed playing along with the trumpet parts since the original album was cut, and offered to the masses. This album is a Classic in every sense of the word. People of this age, and the next will love this music just as everyone I know does including each of my four children, and all of their friends. Its beat, and rhythms carry on into this new Millennium, and spread the joy its brought to people since the day these very talented artists ... This is the ultimate Chicago recording. Chicago II or just "Chicago" CD Rhino release.
Chicago's 2nd album, always called Chicago 2, but is really Chicago, because the 1st album was called Chicago Transit Authority. (There was a lawsuit from a certain public transportation service.) Now I love the 1st album a lot, it is so packed with great music. Chicago release this 2nd album while touring in between shows. A lot of bands tend to fall short on their second album, well Chicago did not do this at all. This album is packed tight with awesome tunes, as good as the 1st album all the way through. It is a concept album with 3 of the hit songs in the middle of a story (Ballet for a girl in Buchcannon), "Make Me Smile" "Colour My World" and "25 Or 6 To 4". With Rhinos master if this album you get both the single cuts for "Make Me Smile" and "25 Or 6 To 4". This is an album you need ... Chicago was still jazz/rock on 2nd album and this is much edgier than subsequent stuff.
Chicago's second double album, on one CD. The band was new and having a double album on one disc makes it a bargain.
