Although it only aired for one season (1971-1972), British television series The Persuaders holds a permanent place in the pantheon of cult classics. In addition to its distinguished Brit TV pedigree--producer Robert S. Baker (The Saint), screenwriters Terry Nation (Doctor Who) and Brian Clemens (The Avengers)--The Persuaders also boasts an inspired, once-in-a-lifetime pairing of screen legends Tony Curtis and Roger Moore (in a pre-Bond role). Moore plays bored English aristocrat Lord Brett Sinclair; Curtis a brash, self-made millionaire from the Bronx named Danny Wilde. Under threat of imprisonment, the unlikely duo are forced into a life of danger and espionage by a judge who wants to track down criminals the court couldn't convict. Together, the two wealthy playboys jet set across Europe in their quest to rid the world of villainy--with plenty of fast cars and faster women to help them along the way. Brimming with '70s charm and a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humor, this 4-disc box set collects the first 13 episodes of The Persuaders' one and only season.

    The Persuaders - Set 1

    When the British do something very well, it's the best. I watched it for the first time ever the other night. I was not disappointed. Every one involved in this production put their very best into it; the music, acting, sets, locations, writing, lighting, camera work - you name it. It is good campy fun. Yes ladies may say it's sexist and chauvenistic but please lighten up. This show was made for sheer entertainment and a laugh, with intrigue thrown in the mix. So just sit back and enjoy it. The attraction/repulsion relationship between Roger Moore and Tony Curtis creates tension thats both revved up and relieved by episodes of action and violence, all with humour and wit thrown in the mix. John Barrys theme song is rich with multilayers of melody in counterpoint. It bears repeated ...

    Dated but fun!

    I watched this show as a child and wanted a chance to see it again. The banter between the two excellent leading men is a delight. Where else will you see Roger Moore and Tony Curtis together on the small screen. The show's fashions are dated as is its view of rich-living from the 1970s but these have a charm of their own. The out-dated, one-dimensional depictions of women are a little harder to look past. That said, I still enjoy it today as I did then.

    Fabulous Series at a Wonderful Price

    I was extremely pleased to obtain “The Persuaders” series, as I could not locate my original copies recently, at such a fabulous price. The characters portrayed have such a chemistry, and the stories are delivered with some humor, especially the banter between Danny Wilde (Tony Curtis) and Lord Brett Sinclair (Sir Roger Moore).

    The Persuaders persuaded me!!!

    My husband introduced me to this show and I am glad he did. I love it.We had some of the shows but not complete so I had to buy this set to watch every episode in order. Tony Curtis and Roger Moore are brilliant.It is just the best and has everything! Intrigue,action,adventure,mystery,romance,comedy,fast cars, great car chases,wonderful fights, great music ect... Tony and Roger work together like pure magic. l also love it because it showcases the wonderful clothes and music of the 1970's. The dancing looks much different than now but very delightful. If you like the Saint, The Avengers and James Bond you will love this show. I recommend buying this set as I could watch it every week. I rate it 10 out of 10 I really wish there was more than one season made. So don't wait buy the complete ...

    The Persuaders, Set 1, with Roger Moore & Tony Curtis

    I remember watching this series when it first aired on American TV. I enjoyed it so much then that I often thought about it over the years. I finally bought a copy of the show this past May. It has been over 30 years since I last saw it and I was surprised to find that the show was every bit as good today as it was when I first watched it. I highly recommend it to anybody who is interested in 60's and 70's television shows. Roger Moore and Tony Curtis make a great pair. Although the special affects in this series aren't as good as they are in current TV shows, the quality of the stories, the dialogue, and the humor will keep you glued to the show.
