2003's PlayStation 2 racing title Need for Speed: Underground 2 lets loose everyone's inner ambition to trick out a vehicle and hit the road as part of an outlaw street racing circuit. A deep experience from the beginning, the play only improves over time. An arcade racer by its very nature, NFSU2 results in a startling 40 hour-plus engagement that is well-packaged, composed with aggressive AI, and loaded with thrills around every corner. Publisher Electronic Arts profoundly expanded Need for Speed: Underground 2. It's not a sequel in the usual sense of the word. Rather, it is a complete re-imagining, derived from the open model made famous by free-roaming, racing action games. Comprised of a five-part city, the fabricated urban center known as Bayview is the imaginative model for midnight speedsters. Coal Harbor, City Core, Beacon Hill, Jackson Heights, and the Airport all offer unique driving opportunities for players seeking the similar types of race variations presented in the prequel. One of the most exciting parts of playing NFSU2 is its carefully developed customization sections. You will find hundreds of custom exterior parts to apply to your ride. The variety of parts includes hoods, spoilers, mufflers, siding, spinners, rims, window tinting, speed dials, trunks, neon under colors, and five layers of decals, just to name a few. Almost all parts are unlocked as a reward for winning races, with the latest and best versions becoming available deeper in the game. These all contribute to your Visual Rating, so customizing your ride serves more of a purpose than just being aesthetically pleasing. For the PS2, the online game is solid and addictive. You are able to get online with your custom racers and compete with up to five other players simultaneously. There is hardly any slowdown, the cars drive utterly well, and the voice chat is as good as it gets. All of the available PS2 race types are playable online as well.In the graphics department, NFSU2 improves upon its excellent-looking original in all ways possible while incorporating many small bonuses that sweeten the deal. The variety in the city is extraordinary in both its art direction and engineering, and the lighting is excellent. Need for Speed had several dark patches, and this installment more than makes up for that with cat's eyes and improved sign placement. The artistically rendered skies and magnificently imagined clouds help bring an added coating of realism and beauty to the experience. Each vehicle has its own gear revs, unique idles, depth to its engine noise, and distinct tire screeches. The gear shifts sound thick and realistic. The wrecks sound like actual metal twisting and glass windows shattering. All of these together create a great feeling of power and car satisfaction.Need for Speed: Underground 2 is an enjoyable PS2 title in the street racer genre. A broad Career mode, fun and exhilarating track designs, and all of the customization options one could dream of are all present. With plenty to see and do, this version is a worthy sequel. If you desire more high-speed action after burning out on other genre standards, head Underground.

    Classic Game

    Great game, hands down one of the best in the NFS series. The game is based around tuning cars for street races, resuming the Need for Speed: Underground storyline. Need for Speed: Underground 2 provides several new features, such as a broader customization, new methods of selecting races, the "explore" mode (just driving around freely, like the Midnight Club series, in a large city known as "Bayview"). Underground 2 also introduces several SUVs, which could be customized as extensively as other Underground 2 vehicles and used to race against other SUV racers. Brooke Burke is the voice of Rachel Teller, the person who guides the player through the story.

    Overall great

    The package was fine, the disc works perfectly, I'm happy with everything. For a racing game in 2004, it is awesome. It has a nice city you can explore and the storyline is pretty simple, but enjoyable. Only thing is it doesn't have cops, so if your looking for pursuits and a better story, 100% recommend need for speed most wanted, but this game is also pretty cool if you just want a street racing game.

    Clunky, pretty, nostalgia

    Good game if your nostalgic for gaming history. Really makes you appreciate newer games. Fun to get on the game and think about how games have evolved. That being said, driving mechanics are a bit clunky. Even though it's older it's really pretty.

    Need for Speed: Underground 2

    Although much better than the first Underground title in this franchise,there are still a lot of things that could use improvement. But, all in all, it's great fun to play & has a lot more customization option's than previous Need for Speed titles. I recommend this one to anyone into any kind of racing game or, those that love customization. There are better titles for serious race fans, though.

    Love this game!!!

    This is definitely the best nfs out of all the nfs’s. You can customize so much in this game inside and out and tweak so much on your engine and so much more and the gameplay is so good. There has never been another nfs with this much customization. Every cars control and speed is true to what they actually are in real life. This game being so good and a ps2 game I can’t understand why they wouldn’t make a new one for ps4 with all the customization you can do on the ps2 version.
