George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a low-budget, homegrown classic that had great difficulty finding a distributor at the time of its release in 1968, and has since become one of the most influential horror films of all time. (Aside from its visceral impact years before realistic gore became the fashion, the film is also important for its portrayal of a black man as the protagonist during a time when race was an extremely sensitive issue in the United States.) The plot is simple: seven people secluded in a Pennsylvania farmhouse face relentless attacks by reanimated corpses seeking to eat their flesh. The group, which includes a married couple and their daughter, a pair of young lovers, and an African-American man, try to keep their sanity as the living dead keep trying to enter the house. Radio news reports tell of the plague taking over the eastern United States, while the ever-decreasing band of survivors rapidly loses ground in the battle to both keep peace with one another and stay alive.

A great film that opened eyes and doors
Night of the Living Dead is A great film that opened eyes and doors and spawned thousands of amazing horror films!!! Night of the Living Dead is amazing. It might feature some cheesy performances and very little special effects (it was the 60's) but George A. Romero took an idea and turned it into an instant classic. The main character is played to perfection and most of the supporting cast does an admirable job. NotLD is Zombie horror at it's finest. Romero had a small budget and little special effects and he still managed to make one of the scariest movies ever made. I still enjoy watching this movie every now and then just to remind myself what started it all and how far we've come. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: If you're a horror fan this is a must buy. Night of the living Dead!!
Night of the living dead was shot in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1964. George Romero shot in black and white although color was available and since it's release in 1968 it has started a cult phenomenon! It introduced to the modern audience the zombie flick. It has a nightmarish tone, chilling atmosphere and it was the last movie to allow adolescents and preteens in without restriction because the american rating system didn't go into effect until the next year. Although it is a pretty good movie it has its flaw. Some of the acting is really bad (Barbara)and the effects inside the movie are not really what you see in modern films so it might look kind of cheap. childhood nightmares
I remember seeing this in a drive-in when it came out and I only remembered half because I was 7 and had my eyes covered for a good bit of it!!It is and will remain one of the rawest horror films ever captured on glorious black and white film. it lacks the special effects and famous actors but the realistic background and internal as well as external fight for survival is its greatest staying power. A must see for fans of non computer generated special effects films....
