An older but still good PDA.
Most people tend to think newer is better, but with the Treo Pro I had this device tends to perform much better for a variety of reasons. Although, the only motive for buying this was I had an HP battery that didn't work (rx1900 but said h4100 also). I used Windows Mobile 6.1 extensively in the last year, so I get to go back in time a bit to Windows CE 4.2 or Windows Mobile 2003. Keep in mind this device will not run WM2003 SE, but applications that are designed to flip to a landscape mode will work. The buttons are nice although I wasn't used to iTask button. This little button will pop up a window that allows the user to switch applications and close applications with ease. It won't close ActiveSync, humorously enough. That has to be done using the memory settings. Also in full ... Also in full screen mode the buttons don't respond in a typical manner and only as the application will use them, so it is easy to get stuck having to do a soft reset. WM2003 is a decent operating system. Very stable, but at the same time if a program crashes it doesn't display the screen asking to submit it to Microsoft. So in Internet Explorer's case it'll just close. IE does not work well on this device at all because coding standards are newer today. A repackaged version of Opera Mini 5 exists on the web and works flawlessly on the h4155. While I have not tested Opera Mini 5 on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, the h4155 loads flawlessly and very quickly with multiple tabs (this is due to the data being sent from Opera's servers and not parsed directly on the iPaq, but still). Where the device excels (and fails) is the RAM. This device has 64MB installed and about 55MB available to the system. Out of that 45MB is user available. That is quite massive compared to many newer devices of the 64MB range. Because, unlike WM5/6/x WM2003 does what we call XIP, or Execute in Place. The reason why the Windows folder doesn't use RAM is because it is on Flash storage and runs 'as if it was in RAM.' Very clever and explains the 800K storage RAM usage. The fail of the h4155 is that it relies in a backup battery if a main battery isn't present. A WM 6.1 device is stored in memory so replacing the battery does a soft reset. A dead or faulty backup battery in the h4155 will do a hard reset. I replaced the battery in mine, so I regain the ability to seamlessly replace the main battery. I get about 15 minutes of standby on a backup battery. Other advantages is that 0% doesn't mean a full discharge as it only drops to about 3.6-3.7 volts so it doesn't wear the battery down (unless you leave it at 0% for a day or two and then it drops into an unrecommended level). Has Bluetooth and 802.11b. The WiFi configured flawlessly, Bluetooth I haven't tested. It also has a self test of almost everything (including Flash memory) except RAM. Useful, really. It only takes SD cards, and the label faces the front (although 2GB cards aren't much). It also has 3MB of internal storage that isn't erased due to loss of power. Enough to store important documents or a small backup (settings mostly). The cradle is nice, although I like that I can clip the iPaq directly to the adapter. However, the only gripes I have is that the extended battery takes a while to charge, then again the adapter is designed for a cradle and that a lot of newer multimedia (like YouTube) isn't supported. There are a ton of games for WM2003 also. In general the device is nice, just a bit old for many.

Great Pocket PC
Recently purchased the unit and here's what I find: Likes: 1) Form factor! This is nearly perfect in size. The buttons provide good tactile feedback, the middle square navigator works well. It is light weight and very comfortable to hold and use. 2) Wi-fi and blue tooth built - very convenient. Be warn though wi-fi usage do take a lot of juice. But can't beat the ability to surf almost anywhere and it is quite usable on the 3.5" screen. 3) Bright screen, very viewable indoor and not bad outdoor. 4) User replaceable battery. Dislikes: 1) Only 32M of user memory, would be nice to have more like - 128M. Really not much to not liking this PDA. It looks much better than the newer models with square (yuk!) bland design. Stll considered slim and sexy
Con-Limited in its 128mb ram to operate AND store programs and files. Files locked down cannot be transferred to sd cards in effort to save ram. iTunes for example, until recently would not let you transfer your bought mp3 files to the sd card. Pro-Still considered slim and sexy. Amazing 6 year old tech. 400mhz processor doesn't compare to today's video iPod but it plays video and music files smoothly, wifi and bluetooth capable, tons of software (most free) and hardware available, sd slot for nearly unlimited memory expansion. A cheap alternative to the video iPod or a versatile device with plenty of free games, productivity software, neat widgets, and hotspot access to your email and social sites, this baby will still serve. (free software will add Skype, universal remote control, language translation) Some of the new netbooks are being released with just 3X (1.2 ghz) the processor power of this pocket powerhouse, tablet umpc's get just 2X (800mhz) handhelds just 50% more.(600mhz) In short, it still offers years of service. Don't expect great connectivity to your Vista OS though. Vista really sucks. Use bluetooth to work around Vista. Original battery is good for 4 hours music playback but will peter out in an hour with wifi and/or bluetooth on so get an extended battery to triple your battery time. Things to pay attention to when shopping for one. 1 A dead backup battery means anytime power is lost ie. the main battery is removed and the charger disconnected, the unit dumps everything from it's 128mb memory. So the original programming remains but if you have not stored or backed up your new programs or files to either the sd card or another computer, they're gone. These batteries can only be replaced by taking the device apart so if you are not inclined to miniature repairs... 2 A worn screen is like smoke in your eyes. Use screen protectors available from any office store. If the previous owners did not do this the screen will show wear and nothing can be done about it short of replacing the screen, the price of the replacement screens is high and knowing what it is you need to order and digging out the guts. (digitizer and LCD cannot be separated) A cracked screen and the unit is completely useless until it is replaced. 3 The battery door, main battery, and stylus are all easily replaceable, but you want to watch the quality on extended batteries and their doors. If you have the battery in place with the back door not completely sealed, the device will not turn on. 4 The speaker is not that important if you prefer using headphones, but it's nice to have functioning and I've found replacing it to be a bit more involved than even screens or backup batteries. The headphone jack is important if you want the device for media purposes. All the buttons (other than keyboard) have dedicated functions which can be reassigned, so also nice but control is available in the start menu or programs menu. 5 Wifi and bluetooth capabilities. Without 'em you don't get to surf the web or use wireless peripheral hardware like the GPS receiver. InfraRed offers file transfer capability as well as nifty widgets and connectivity to some foldable full size keyboards so make sure yours is 100%. It doesn't offer; on board GPS, camera, accelerometer, fm radio receiver or transmitter. (Most of these are available as peripheral hardware.) upgradeable anything except software and main battery

Very satisfied
This item does everything as expected. I use it in the field and on the range with my ballistic program and run it all day long making calculations. Appreciate the long battery life ease of use and easy to read outdoors.
