Outstanding watercolor book
This book is filled with incredible, energized, light-filled paintings of coastal scenes. It is not intended for a beginner watercolorist, but beginners can certainly benefit from all the information it offers on composition and design methods. The paintings glow in their transparency, and the skills of the artist are incredible. It is less a book about actual technique, and more of a book on how to achieve a strong composition for your paintings along with insight into achieving luminosity, and demonstrations on steps taken during the painting and why the artist chose to do something. It is not a book you will want to put down. Mr. Plummer teaches and demonstrates about things that can add drama to a painting such as using light, exagerating shadows, adding warm color on a generally ... This book is filled with incredible, energized, light-filled paintings of coastal scenes. It is not intended for a beginner watercolorist, but beginners can certainly benefit from all the information it offers on composition and design methods. The paintings glow in their transparency, and the skills of the artist are incredible. It is less a book about actual technique, and more of a book on how to achieve a strong composition for your paintings along with insight into achieving luminosity, and demonstrations on steps taken during the painting and why the artist chose to do something. It is not a book you will want to put down. Mr. Plummer teaches and demonstrates about things that can add drama to a painting such as using light, exagerating shadows, adding warm color on a generally cool scene, using analogous colors on the color wheel to create continuity, connecting shapes, deciding tonal values, etc.. He breaks the coastal elements into sky, surf, calm water, reflections, rocks, ledges and beaches, vegetation, boats, and buildings. It's an absolutely stunning book and each painting is filled with enormous energy through the use of design methods that Carlton Plummer teaches and demonstrates in this book. I'm somewhat a beginner, but I love this book even though it would be more helpful to me if I were a bit more experienced. Even for the non-painter, it is worth it for the brilliance and energy of the paintings alone.
