  • Short pieces by a master writer

Clarke never really wrote a bad story, whether short or long. This collection is supposedly all of his short fiction, and some of that fiction is incredible. If "A Walk in the Dark" doesn't scare you, you are already dead. "The Star" and "Nine Billion Names of God" are a very different view of religion. "The Sentinel" is the short story that actually gave rise to "2001". Some of the stories are hard science and some of philosoply but all are wonderfully readable and even more importantly, they make you think. If you can't think for yourself, please stay away from this book.
