Breathtaking Video
Before viewing this film it is important that the viewer realize the risk that were taken in producing it. This along with the fact that several climbers died on Everest the same year the film was made really adds to the drama. The film is well done from the perspective of someone trying to learn more about human mortality, from the beauty of the mountain and the area surrounding, and from the perspective of how incredible man's perserverance can be in the face of what seems to be insurmountable challenges. The timing and nature of the film is impecable. The story does not center on one aspect of the climb but instead introduces the inhabitants of the region, the climbers, and the mountain. While watching this film the viewer will feel a rush of emotions; from sadness to elation, the entire gammit of human emotions will be felt. Nature at its best and at its worst is the true star of this show and there can be no confusion about this. In the end this was an IMAX film originally. I can only imagine how incredible it must have been to watch the film on the giant IMAX screen surrounded by the mountain and all of its dangers. Many crew members risked their lives in the making of this film. The end results speak for themselves and were indeed worth that risk.

Everest - a near death experience
I had read a couple of books about the Everest disaster where six climbers died on the mountain. The IMAX crew was on the mountain at the same time and helped out where they could, jeopardizing their film. Included in the extra footage is a fabulous interview with a climber, Beck Weathers, that nearly froze to death. He is a doctor, very articulate and very, very insightful. I bought the DVD to actually see Everest, up close and personal. Every year, people pay a lot of money ($65k+)and endanger their personal safety, to try to go to the top of the world. IMAX-Everest
This was an excellent film which I had seen years ago in an IMAX theatre. I am a huge fan of this type of adventure and it was great to be able to see this film in my home. The colors are incredible as the quality of the film is excellent. If you have ever read the book "Into Thin Air" this is an great film to go along with it. While it isn't exactly like seeing a film on an IMAX screen this is still very enjoyable on the new high definition TV's.This was an excellent film which I had seen years ago in an IMAX theatre.
