Hoot Rating: PG for some mild bullying and some language May 5th, 2006 Hoot is based on the best selling book by Carl Hiaasen, which I have read numerous of times. Teaching us all a life-wise message about to care for the enviremont. Seeing the movie the first day it came out, I quite enjoyed it. It was funny, heart warming, and it was cute when the owls poked their heads out of their burrows. Roy is the new kid in Florida, moving from Montana. Since his dad has a job that moves him around a lot, they pack up and move with him. Having a gigantic bully, bully him a lot, it is hard to make it "home" worthy. As the big bully pushes his head up against the window one day on the bus, he sees a bare-footed boy run as fast as anyone he ever saw. That same day, a girl gets mad ... Despite the efforts of the bully, a funny and dim witted policeman (Luke Wilson), and an executive with the pancake company who has a secret of his own, the three kids find a way to discover the truth and bring happiness to everyone and the owls. A movie for the "Bird Person" or anyone that just loves nature. Being a fan of flamingos, I just had to see this movie, even though it didn't have any flamingos in it, it had birds, so that satisfyed me. Showing a message, this movie is particularly for everyone, not "The Small Fry" of the "Old Folk", but for everyone because it dosen't matter how old you are, it demonstrates the message perfectly. Hope you enjoy! Jordan Overall grade* B+

Hoot is not only a great kid's movie, but one for the whole family as well. The story line centers around a new kid in school who must deal with all the hazards of being new: making friends, confronting bullies and learning a new school and community, while meeting a strange 'barefoot kid' who intrigues him. All of this is juxtaposed upon a new restaurant proposed to be built on what he learns is the endangered burrowing owls' nesting grounds. The kids are determined to save the owls from certain death. The movie has all the elements of a good movie: good plot with interesting characters and development of relationships between them; surprises and unexpected twists with humor; a real ecological situation showing the effects of urban development upon nature; and most ... Hoot is not only a great kid's movie, but one for the whole family as well. The story line centers around a new kid in school who must deal with all the hazards of being new: making friends, confronting bullies and learning a new school and community, while meeting a strange 'barefoot kid' who intrigues him. Environmental awareness for all
Having lived through the life of a Navy brat this was a refreshing look at the new kid trying to fit in. Roy does an outstanding job of being both scared and overconfident in his quest to find friends and his place in this new community. His ability to stumble onto a human-interest story while just finding his bearings in his new home, is a stroke of genius and the development of the storyline by the writer is amazing. All ages will love this fast-paced movie with an all important environmental issue and the appearance of a small group of people (kids here) being able to go up against big brother is fun to watch. The music throughout the movie is great and fun to listen to with the appearance of Jimmy Buffet superb. This will be a cherished addition to any family's movie library. ... Great for the New School Year
My family enjoyed Hoot so much we have watched it twice since we bought it. My son is eight and he wants to watch it again tonight. He's kind of past watching movies more than once but he loves it for a few reasons. He thinks that the owls are cute and need to be saved. He thinks it is funny--there are clever lines. I think kids like to watch movies about new kids fitting into schools--it makes them feel like they aren't the only ones nervous to meet new friends. The boy in the story works out issues with people well--he walks right up to one girl and asks what's up with how she's acting towards him. Great Family Movie
This movie, Hoot, is great and entertaining. The entire family will enjoy this. You'll learn about owls as well as what its like to transfer eight times in ten years to different school as Eberhardt did. Immediately he meets a bully on the bus and pops him in the nose. He becomes an instant hero with other school mates as no one has ever touched a hand on this bully before. Then he meets a Soccer Queen who actually is down to earth and shares that her brother is the barefoot kid. A great movie to add to your collection. Not boring whatsoever.This movie, Hoot, is great and entertaining. The entire family will enjoy this.
