À propos de ce produit

Product Information

This is the thoroughly revised and updated second edition of the hugely successful The Art of Electronics. Widely accepted as the authoritative text and reference on electronic circuit design, both analog and digital, this book revolutionized the teaching of electronics by emphasizing the methods actually used by circuit designers -- a combination of some basic laws, rules of thumb, and a large bag of tricks. The result is a largely nonmathematical treatment that encourages circuit intuition, brainstorming, and simplified calculations of circuit values and performance. The new Art of Electronics retains the feeling of informality and easy access that helped make the first edition so successful and popular. It is an ideal first textbook on electronics for scientists and engineers and an indispensable reference for anyone, professional or amateur, who works with electronic circuits.

Reviews
'Another electronics textbook that became an international best-seller ... the book is renowned for presenting the techniques that circuit designers actually use.' IEEE Spectrum, "A lovely book, it covers a wealth of electronic topics in a very readable style." Richard Morin, Sunexpert, 'Far and away the finest book on the subject of electronics … in the last decade. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone whose research or experiments require some electronics.' Optical Engineering, "Far and away the finest book on the subject of electronics ... in the last decade. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone whose research or experiments require some electronics." Optical Engineering, "This book provides a painless way to learn about electronic design. It is also a good read for those already experienced in electronics." EDN (Magazine Edition), 'Another electronics textbook that became an international best-seller … the book is renowned for presenting the techniques that circuit designers actually use.'IEEE Spectrum, "A delightful book...The circuits actually work, the schematics are all readable." Review of Scientific Instruments, 'The best self-teaching book and reference book in electronics ... The beauty and fun of electronics shows through.' Radio Communication, 'Full of clever circuits and sharp insights, but with a surprising minimum of mathematics … The depth is genuine, as is the richness of examples, data and apt tricks.' Scientific American, "Another electronics textbook that became an international best-seller... the book is renowned for presenting the techniques that circuit designers actually use." Optical Engineering, "This book is filled with a tremendous diversity of valuable information. More importantly, this book is a joy to read...It's not at all like studying--it's too much fun." EDN (News Edition), "..it comes as close as any book we've seen to fulfilling the promise inherent in its title...written as though to educate the novice, but practicing engineers will encounter many useful tidbits they didn't know, hadn't thought about, or had long forgotten." Analog Dialogue, 'The best self-teaching book and reference book in electronics … The beauty and fun of electronics shows through.' Radio Communication, "The best self-teaching book and reference book in electronics... The beauty and fun of electronics shows through." Radio Communication, "...a refreshingly simple, practical and comprehensive textbook on the subject of electronic circuit behavior and design...one of the few contemporary practical reference handbooks on electronic design basics." Physics in Canada, 'Another electronics textbook that became an international best-seller … the book is renowned for presenting the techniques that circuit designers actually use.' IEEE Spectrum, ‘Far and away the finest book on the subject of electronics … in the last decade. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone whose research or experiments require some electronics.’Optical Engineering, ‘The best self-teaching book and reference book in electronics … The beauty and fun of electronics shows through.’Radio Communication, "The second volume carries on une grande tradition as well as adding 400 new pages to the original (already massive) text. It is, without doubt, the book for the practical engineer. No cerebral theorizing here, no long sections of abstruse mathematical derivations; just page after page of solid empirical engineering. It is also light hearted and anecdotal, with some wonderful pages of bad ciruit 'howlers' that the authors have encountered." John V. Hatfield, IJEEE

  • Asian Edition

This review is for the Asian Edition. It looks like it is the complete contents, which is what I was mainly interested in. That's not an issue. But be aware that the reason they can sell this version so cheaply is that the physical product is inexpensively made. The covers are slightly more than heavy paper, the pages are thin and probably won't stand up to hard use, and the binding is at best adequate but also will not stand up to hard use. If you're looking to make an investment in a reference book that will last for years, buy the expensive hardcover edition. If all you're after is the knowledge contained, the Asian edition will do.

  • Two words........THE BEST

Just read the reviews and read the book and work through the student manual......THE BEST. As an electrical engineer who graduated and really knew nothing about the art of circuit design, but plenty about the mathematics and physics...even quantum physics, this book made all of that theory come together in such a pragmatic way. I can honestly say now that I can use what I know, where I was worried before. Speaking to those who may be concerned about the 'high-level' language in a textbook written for students at Harvard, please don't worry. This text was written in such a way that even those Liberal Arts fa$s can read and understand it. :) Seriously though, it is a very plain-language text that gives a 'feel' for what you are doing rather than telling you ...

  • Incomparable

When you first pick it up (the hardcover edition) you will note its weight; this is a very heavy and very thick book. However, I think Bubba from the movie Forrest Gump would know exactly what to say about this book, "dis book knows bout everythang they is to know bout 'lectronics", and Bubba would be right! For anyone studying electronics or anyone who just wants a refresher to shake up the 'ole brain cells, The Art of Electronics absolutely caters to those needs. From voltage and current to microprocessors and briefly touching on spectrum analysis and Fourier transforms, its all here and with appendices from A to K, you know you are getting your moneys worth. As far as which edition to get: I recommend getting the Hardcover US Edition not the softcover international (read the ...

  • A good reference text for any experimenter of physics

I bought this book to supplement the student lab manual [and for a class]. It makes for a great reference book, but it is starting to get a little out dated as they haven't done a new addition since 1989. There have been quite a few new and important electronic devices and circuit elements made since then so it would be nice to have an updated version that keeps the style intuitive and humorous. I do recommend buying the lab manual along with this book if you want to get the gist of things, and then if you want to learn a little more in depth, read into the text. I am a physics student for undergrad and this book is certainly relevant to a physicist as you can learn to design your own experimental devices (both analog and digital) and it also gives the physicist an engineering approach as ...

  • The Art of Electronics

I must admit that I have not thoroughly reviewed this exact edition of the book. I bought it as a second copy so I could keep one at work and one at home. I have had the hardcover version for over ten years and have read it several times. When I need a little reminder on how to design, or at least approach a new project, often this is where I turn. If you want to design circuits that work and be able to make changes with a reasonably level of success and understanding this is the book for you. However, if you are more interested in solving difficult equations, impressing friends with your knowledge of exactly how semiconductors operate at the sub atomic level then go out buy one of the many other fine electronics texts that are available. This is not a start from the very beginning ...
