Product Information

The studio behind such persistent-world properties as EverQuest, Star Wars Galaxies, and Free Realms lends its development expertise to this comics-themed online RPG, which has players fighting for good or evil alongside iconic heroes and villains from DC Comics. The story involves a cybernetically enhanced Lex Luthor traveling back in time to warn of a devious plot by Braniac to control the world. Luthor also brings with him a device that will grant super powers to ordinary citizens, allowing the world to unite against Braniac and his minions. Could Luthor be telling the truth, or is this merely an elaborate ruse by the criminal mastermind?<br><br>You will play as one of the newly "enhanced" citizens. Similar to City of Heroes and Champions Online, you'll create your own distinctive hero or villain, choosing from a variety of costume options, power sets, and travel options. The three movement types include super speed, flight, and acrobatics. Your character will also be able to draw powers from one of five areas of knowledge: fire, ice, mental, nature, sorcery, or gadgets, with each type offering two specializations. Nature, for example, has specialties in shapeshifting and plants.<br><br>To receive quests, your character must align him or herself with one of six mentors: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, Lex Luthor, and Circe. The action-oriented combat system lets heroes throw objects (and even enemies), activate powers, and battle foes with fists or weapons. Characters can use martial arts, archery, dual pistols, hand blasters, staves, and other weapon types. The world in DC Universe spans multiple regions, including such notable areas as Gotham City, Metropolis, and Atlantis. In addition to player versus environment (PvE) content, special areas are available for player versus player (PvP) battles. A monthly subscription is required to keep playing the game after its initial 30-day trial expires.

    Fun to a point...

    It's a fun game to play with a nice plot & graphics but the kicker is unless you pay for a subscription...you're severely shorted of its full potential. Don't buy unless you're satisfied with working with just 2 characters with limited abilities, weapons, & characteristic designs available to a player with no subscription.

    Do not buy second hand/used. Won't work on your console

    BUYERS BEWARE. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME SECOND HAND. READ BELOW: In what could be seen as a major step against the selling of used games by Sony Online Entertainment, it turns out that copies of the PS3 MMORPG DC universe Online are locked to just a single PSN account. SOE has made it so that “Once the PSN key has been consumed with a disk, it cannot be resold / replayed with the second user adding a [subscription]“, a SOE representative told Lazygamer. “Only the original consumer can use that [account]“. There is currently no system in place to offer activiation codes for consumers who bought a second-hand copy. From the point of view of a gamer I can only hope this doesn’t become more common as not only do I own more than 1 PS3, but I have family with their own PSN accounts.

    awesome game, endless amount of playing, Great value for you money!!

    This game is awesome and its free (digital copy via PSN i prefer have the physical copy) . I've always wanted to play this but you had to pay a monthly subscription. Now it is FREE TO PLAY! This game looks great, it exceeded my expectations on the ps3. There is enough content on here to keep you busy for months due to the ridiculous amount of content that has been released over the two years of the games life, and they are still adding more DLC! If you read DC comics you will be in nerd heaven with the amount of fan service they have fit into this game. BUY and PLAY NOW! Only thing i problem is that you cant get trophies unless you are paying the monthly subscription.

    Perfect

    This is one of those console defining titles, a title that makes you glad to own a PS3. This is a MMO, but the combat is very satisfying. The creation system is good enough to give you various creations but a little more freedom in really changing your characters every little detail would've put it over the top. The xp system and powers are great and there are literally thousands of ways to make them evolve and mix them up. you can play with your friends online and even create and join your own leagues. The great thing is that in pure MMO fashion there are always downloads for the game and there will be even more great additions to come. This game is free to play now and the only drawback is sometimes it can freeze which isn't that common for me and the ridiculously long 16 hour initial ...

    GREAT GAME SUPERHEROES COMING TOGETHER IS GREAT

    If you've never played a massively multiplayer online game before, DC Universe Online is a good place to start. This isn't just because of the DC Comics license, though that might be what first draws you to this light and breezy take on the genre. After all, this is your chance to take to the skies above Metropolis like Superman or skulk in Gotham City's shadows like Batman himself. But it's the way DCUO mixes action-game sensibilities with traditional role-playing progression that makes it immediately enjoyable. If you're a seasoned role-player you'll find it refreshing as well--but only to a point. The speedy level progression and focus on all combat, all the time might prove tedious if you're someone who enjoys exploring new worlds for the thrill of mystery and discovery. The largely ...
