Christmas In Camelot by Mary Pope Osborne
I loved this #29 Magic Treehouse Series. The book tells of siblings Jack & Annie who while walking through the woods in Frog Creek, come upon the magic treehouse once again. once they climb the rope radder, they discover a note inviting them to spend Christmas Eve in Camelot signed by M. whom they assume is their friend Morgan Le Fay. When they reach Camelot, they finds that it is dark and gloomy with no joy or magic. After speaking with Morgan, they learn that the invitation was not sent by her. They speak with King Arthur and learn that a spell has been cast on the kingdom by Mondred's Dark Wizard robbing it of all its joy. The king has sent his bravest knights (Sirs Lancelot, Galahad, Percival) to the Otherworld (an ancient, enchanted land beyond the edge of the Earth)to recapture the ... I loved this #29 Magic Treehouse Series. Jack and Annie agree to go, but the king and Morgan try to stop them but the Christmas Knight freezes the king, his queen, and Morgan. They are given a rhyme that they must complete to get to and return safely from the Otherworld. They must have the knight's magic cape, acup, a compass , and a key. They travel there on a white magic stag. Once they reach the the land, they are met with different obstacle, but the four gifts help them reach the end. They meet the three knights from Camelot and rescue them form a never ending dance that has them under a spell. Each knight gives them one of the three gifts left on the list to enter and get pass the Keepers of the Cauldron that turns out to be fire-breathing dragons. They use the cup to capture water from a fountain at the Water of Memory and Imagination and return to save Camelot and restore its joy.

If your child likes 1 Magic Tree House book-Then there are 40 they'll like!
I have an advanced reader in the second grade or so I am told. Supposedly he is reading third-fourth grade level. I only mention that because it may be relevant to this review. Anyways, My child loves these books. I bought a set of 35 of the Magic Tree House books and he will very happily sit and read one of these books in about an hour. For me it was well worth the cost to advance his reading skills with prodding on my part. I learned the value of reading skills when I was in grade school. Many educators equate reading skills with overall scholastic ability thus providing the good readers with an edge and usually more instruction time and better quality instruction time. I also found out that the Magic Tree House books in his school library do not stay on the shelf long ... I have an advanced reader in the second grade or so I am told. I would recommend trying one of these Magic Tree House books and if your child like it then there are atleast 40 more that you know the child will like also. I hope this helps.
