  • +3Money Mis-spent

This book covers SPECIFIC REPAIRS OR ALTERATIONS only to mainstream products that are currently popular. If you are looking for PRINCIPLES of gunsmithing that will give an insight into work on anything old, unusual or out of the popular mainstream....save your money, for this volume will soon be outdated and useless. The contents do not even allow for variations by different manufacturers. It is a hack job and a catch penny. You would be better served by saving up for an obsolete, out of print standard work such as "Advanced Gunsmithing by Vickery" or "Gunsmithing by Dunlap." Quite frankly, top flight gunsmiths do not reveal their methods and you will eventually find that experimenting on your own specemins is a much better way to learn "secrets" of the trade. Actually, there are no ...

  • Gunsmithing by Patrick Sweeney

I've just resurrected an old flame of mine and the "Flame" is my love of self protection devices. Guns!!! I'm close to retiring and still want to be active so, I'm returning to Gunsmithing. I'm not some doddering old man and I'm still very good at making and/or repairing "Things" with my own two hands so I'm already putting together my "Old" work bench. This book is very informative and a good basic guide to help me sharpen some of my old skills. It is an exceptionally well written book for the novice and especially to me because it will teach me some of the basics that I'd long ago forgotten during my 24 years in the US Army. I look forward to referring to it often as I restart my Hobby of Gunsmithing. Three hats off to Pat Sweeney. Thanks, Sarge

  • This is an EXCELLENT handgun gunsmithing book

I bought this book because I liked Sweeney's rifle gunsmithing book so much. I have not been disappointed. It covers pistols and revolvers, and has material ranging from jobs easily done by the home shadetree 'smith to work that would need to be done by professionals. Sweeney helped me diagnose and treat a Government Model 45 ejection problem with text and photographs that were much more helpful than even the classic, seminal "The Colt .45 Automatic - A Shop Manual" by Jerry Kuhnhausen. Now my 45 doesn't eject fired cases straight back into my nose, drawing blood in the process. This is a very worthwhile addition to the handgun owner's library.

  • good reference book; simple reference to gunsmithing

I use it to introduce many to Gunsmithing, to enable novices to become more educated when it comes to all general phases of firearms. An introduction to help many learn about what a weapon, rifle or pistol is, what its many uses of it are and enabling many learn that weapons aren't just guns. They are both defensive as well as enjoyable. And last but not least, need to be taken care of, cleaned, as well as respected and taken care of.
