Going Back in Time with Joni Mitchell
The sounds of the 1960's, with the true musicians like Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Arlo Guthrie, Jim Croci, and many others, offered lyrics that we could all relate to in our own personal lives. The music produced allowed listeners to feel "free" in thought, to travel in fantasies, as we would get lost in each word sung! I was born in 1972. And like many times in my life, I was too late to really be a true fan of the 60's - but still, many years later, I still relish every moment to listen to my favorite song by Mitchell off of her album SONG OF A SEAGULL: "The Pirate of Penance." The words in this song are very close to my own heart! Joni past and not past
I fell in love with Joni Mitchell's music in 1970 and through the years tht followed bought what I thought was a full collection of her vinyl recordings. A while ago, I played the old "Clouds" record, which was a bit worse for wear after 40-odd years of storage and many moves, so I thought it time to replace it with a CD version. In the search, I found this first album which had entirely escaped me (also another even older live recording, "Live at the Second Fret"). These early recordings have a charm in their preserved youthful tone of voice and expression. That time is past, but will never be merely memory. Amazingly great!!
If you love Joan, and you don't have this you are fooling yourself. Her songwriting on this 1st release is not only fully realized, but simply amazing. As is her incredible playing and singing. This remastered CD with full lyric sheet is an amazing value. Sound is Excellent, perfect. I gave up on trying to get a decent vinyl copy of this, I don't think there are any. I'm extremely happy to have this to add to my Joni Collection.If you love Joan, and you don't have this you are fooling yourself.
