This movie is laugh out loud funny. A classic example of scaring without unnecessary gore. Betty White's performance was so opposite of who she was in real life. Oliver Platts performance was equally toxicating. Just great scares all around. It came in good condition and no skips or freezing up.

Lake Placid 1 of the trilogy, has to be the best one fro all ive heard and read about.. a north eastern (Maine) lake is terrorized by an Alligator, of all things.... Starring Bill Pullman, Bridgett Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, and lastly Betty (always a crack-up) White. Bridget and Oliver really steal the movie with their characters, overriding and dominating the roles of zanyness and scientists basicly.. Lake Placid DVD movie both funny & scary
My oldest son and family loved this movie and told me about it as I live in Florida, alligator country & have a big gator in our pond. As usual, when I want something, I check eBay first and got a new DVD for a great price. My husband & I did not find a lot of humor in the story, like my son did. It was a suspenseful plot with a romantic twist. Betty White did not have a big part in the movie - would have liked to see more of her...however, she played it with her usual unique sense of humor. The surprise ending brought a chuckle in typical B. White style. And there were several parts that brought me out of my seat with a heart-pounding thud - and screech. You need too watch this Betty White is Awesome.
Love this movie Bill Pullman great one of my Favorites and the cheekiness of the Sheriff is another reason he is my favorite I found out he also played Mad Eye Moody another reason I love this movie!

Decent film with Great Special FX
Lake Placid Fairly decent film that's as funny as it is scary. It's nothing to write home about but it is highly enjoyable!!! The special effects are great and the acting is above B-Level. The giant alligator is pretty sweet and Betty White and Oliver Platt are great. Even though it's unoriginal and unbelievable it's a pretty decent film. Final Verdict: 3/5 Rent or Buy?: If you've seen it you've probably already made up your mind on whether or not you want to own it. If you haven't seen it I recommend renting it before buying it.
