Overall, a great system.
First, there is a lot of hype (mostly from Pioneer) surrounding their new AVIC-F series. Conversely, there is a lot of complaining and griping coming from people who've bought one of them. All of that aside, you must look at what you want. I settled on the F700bt because it offered in-dash, TTS navigation, iPhone bluetooth connectivity, iPod control (use the Apple cables, not any other, for best results), touchscreen ease, firmware updates from Pioneer (which have, thus far, addressed most issues people had complained about). Throw in XM/Sirius/HD Radio abilities, back-up camera hook-ups and voice command (which is admittedly shady sometimes) all for well below Pioneer's asking price, and I decided to give it a shot. I put this in an 03 Jetta GLI, the only extra thing I had to buy was an ... First, there is a lot of hype (mostly from Pioneer) surrounding their new AVIC-F series. I put this in an 03 Jetta GLI, the only extra thing I had to buy was an install cage. That has more to do with VW than Pioneer. Everything has been great so far. My iPhone can make and receive calls (although, the mic seems to transmit my voice much quieter to the person on the other end). I also plug the iPhone into the unit for full control of the music I keep on it -- and there has never been a problem making or receiving calls while in iPod mode. The nav system works as it should, better than my $100 Tom-Tom, but not as good as others that cost quite a bit more. There are quibbles regarding some maps, but this is the map software providers shortfall, not Pioneer's -- most all of my complaints can probably be corrected through firmware updates from Pioneer. CD performance is as expected. It has not a problem reading any of my mp3 or AAC discs, it's great that it will list the songs on regular CDs with CD Text info. I have not tried the SD Card for music or movies yet, I have read some poor reviews regarding it. Apparently, placing music or movies onto an SD Card for playback places ALL of the work on the unit; whereas, using your iPod or iPhone for music and movies places the vast majority of the work with the iPod/iPhone. This results in much smoother playback, no skipping/dropping/cutting of movies (I keep some kid's movies for our 5 year old little girl on the phone, never had a playback problem). Pioneer offers some program called AVIC Feeds to download for your PC -- it is supposed to allow you to add POIs, change the splash screen and other little adjustments. I tried it, and I found it terrible to use. It's much easier just doing what you need to do from the unit. You can upload splash screen pics from an SD card anyway. When I bought this unit, Pioneer had already done a 2.0 update to the firmware, currently they are working on a 3.0 update -- these are free updates, they address problems and add functionality, what was the last car receiver you had that could do that? Not to mention, for the daring, this thing is running Windows CE, hacking into it is a simple job, people are adding new themes, correcting personal quibbles with display preferences, even loading Tom-Tom and Garmin maps into it. Proceed at your own risk though, and check out avic411.com for ANY help regarding ANY of the Pioneer AVIC series. Would I buy it again? Yes, and I plan on it. My girlfriend wants one in her Scion. Considering the price I paid for my f700bt is the same as what I paid for a CD PLAYER ONLY not too many years ago, I am willing to say it is a great product. And I look forward to the firmware updates.

this unit is great
this unit has it all bluetooth, gps, ipod integration, etc. the only feature i wish it had was a dvd player. However if you really like Avic products and you dont want to spend a grand amount of money for the z series or x series the f series is a great alternative. it may not be the fastest of the bunch but it gets the job done. if anything i would recomend the f90 or f900 due to speed. anyways...for a cheap alternative to the z110bt or z1 z2 etc this is good.this unit has it all bluetooth, gps, ipod integration, etc. the only feature i wish it had was a dvd player. Excellent value price/quality
Excellent unit quality (even if that Chinise made). Outstanding expandability options. Acceptable Signal/noice level and low harmonic distortion. Software is not bad (but some bugs still present - internal processes priority alghoritm). Overal sound quality - very good. Navigation wirks great - no major issues. Maps accurate (even from 2008). Samantha TTS voice required correction (improvement)- overdistorted. Heandsfree is out of competition. Echo supression is excellent (Microphone need to be selected precisely. Do not use CD-VM1!!!) USB connectivity - acceptable (some supplimental files *.Jpg, *.cnf..., etc. make unite freeze. Power swith abcense is not comfortable if unit get freeze in the middle of the process. AVIC F700BT Good Buy
I love that it is an "all in one" device. It has navi, plays cd's, has ipod input, as well as an sd card slot. The only thing that is a bummer is the load time when starting the vehicle. Although it is a lot faster since I installed the latest firmware update. You'll have music playing in under 10 seconds. I bought it because my wife and I wanted a vehicle with nav and the price was right as they say.I love that it is an "all in one" device. I would say this deck is so user friendly. Anyone can use it. The maps are easy to read and for me having a USB jack makes it more awsome. Great deck money we'll spent.
