À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Based on the first novel in Christopher Paolini's popular INHERITANCE trilogy, ERAGON is a fantastical adventure in a vein similar to that of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. A classic story of a quest driven by destiny and set in a land where elves, magicians, and humans live side by side, the battle between good and evil, innocence and cynicism, is taken up once again. John Malkovitch camps it up as the evil King Galbatorix, a former guardian of peace who long ago went over to the dark side. He now rules over a land from which dragons have all but disappeared, until humble farm boy Eragon (newcomer Edward Speelers) happens upon a mysterious blue object that turns out to be a dragon egg. Eragon befriends the charming dragon cub, Saphira (voiced with aplomb by Rachel Weisz), and becomes her rider, designating him as the principal warrior in the fight against evil. Jeremy Irons steals the show as the wise and mysterious old man who becomes Eragon's mentor, guiding him through the tasks of saving a princess (Sienna Guillory) battling an evil sorcerer (Robert Carlyle, TRAINSPOTTING), and fending off hordes of the hideous Urgals. All of this will strike the seasoned fantasy viewer as familiar territory, but the formula is given life by veterans Malkovitch and Irons, as well as the young Speelers. The film was shot mostly in Hungary, whose breathtaking landscape combines to great effect with excellent cinematography. The special effects, created by LORD OF THE RINGS' Digital Magic and STAR WARS' Industrial Light and Magic, more than live up to the precedent set by those films, while the dragon is film's true star.

  • Fantasy Thrill Ride Supreme

Part King Arthur, part Lord Of The Rings, part Dragonheart; complete fun! Another fantasitical adventure that will entertain any that enjoys this genre of film. For me it was a must buy after seeing it, because one viewing just wasn't enough. Fun, fantasy, and a dark tale all rolled into one. The scenery is spectacular and the story invigorating. It left me wanting more and highly anticipating a sequel. Enjoyed Jeremy Irons' portrayal of Eragon's mentor very much, as well as John Malkovich's role as the evil king. The rest of the cast are vitual unknowns to me (outside of Djimon Hounsou of "Gladiator" and "Amistad" fame), but the film made it easy for them to bring their characters to life in a most enjoyable manner. Will be totally disappointing if they don't make a sequel as they ...

  • Why the Bad Press?

I don't understand why all the bad press has been coming out about Eragon. Sure, I normally take the Hollywood critics with a grain of salt, but with all the poor reviews coming out, my sodium intake is way too high! Given, Eragon is not high art. It won't make any great contribution to the discipline of film theory, but it is a solid sword and sorcery offering. I enjoyed it tremendously. I think many people (or at the very least, a lot of young guys of my generation) will get a kick out of the premise: a seemingly insignificant young man finds a dragon egg that will launch him into a greater world of magic, wonder, and the fight against evil. And, really, who hasn't daydreamed about dragons as a child. Or if you're a nerd like me, I can rephrase the question: "Who doesn't daydream ...

  • Like new! Very pleased with my DVD.

My grandson is really enjoying this DVD. He watched Eragon about 5 times the first day it arrived. When I googled dragon movies I did not remember this one at all. I watched it before allowing my grandson to view it for the first time and have to admit it is in excellent condition. I was also surprised it arrived so promptly and on time since my grandson was spending the weekend with me. I have to admit I was skeptic about buying online used product but am now convinced that's the route to go and in this economy I saved a lot of money. I will definately continue to review and make future purchases on gently used products.

  • Eragon

I had high hopes for this movie, after the kids and I read the book. The movie was overall rushed, simplistic, and terrible. No character development, no real plot development, no development of anything really: just plows through some bits and pieces from the book at high speed (ie: "we need to go to the Varden" The next scene. they're there.). Many major aspects from the book were just not put into the movie. In order to even begin to do the book justice, the movie should of been at least 2 1/2 hours long. If they decide to do a movie version of Eldest: get a real director to do. If you like movies like this: stick with The Lord of the Rings.

  • If given the choice between the book and the movie, I'd take both.

I bought this DVD set because I loved the book so much. I think that the movie in no way equaled the book in richness of fantasy or development of the characters, but it did capture the magic of the dragon Saphira, and her relationship with the boy Eragon. The movie would have had to be quite a bit longer and the production much more involved to do the story justice. All in all, I felt it was a good try, and had much to recommend it.
