Jack Kirby Inked by Joe Sinnott...
For those just getting into reading the early issues of the Fantastic Four, and not worrying about collecting back issues, the Essential Format could be the way to go. When you get up to issues #39 to 89 that would be when Jack Kirby hit his prime on the FF comic. A lot of those issues would be inked by Joe Sinnot. An interesting sidenote about Joe's working on Jack's books. He had never talked to Jack during all those years on the phone while inking his FF, from issue #44 till he took a vacation sometime in the #80's. That collaboration was West Coast / East Coast in distance, and yet the two produced some outstanding work during that time! Joe was an artist in his own right, he drew several comic pages for Atlas (pre-Marvel), and was also an inker on the Mighty ... For those just getting into reading the early issues of the Fantastic Four, and not worrying about collecting back issues, the Essential Format could be the way to go. I have been fortunate to meet Joe Sinott at the San Diego Comic Con International, get his autograph, and his photo. It is is a thrill for me to meet with all the Silver Age writers, artists, and inkers that attend comic books conventions! You could possibly have Joe sign this book at a convention as he does attend a few. I would not collect the comics in this black and white format, as I miss the color pages that the higher priced hardback books are in, (Masteworks Series), but this is ok for reading to get younger readers interested in reading the 1960's comics. This series would be good for a library to buy, to have for their patrons, or for a comics fan to give an inexpensive gift to a non-comics reader to show them what they are missing. Michael

Great story blemished by bad production
The reason this volume didn’t work for me was production quality of the pages. The ink lines seem to have dropouts where the lines are simply not that crisp. I would think in this digital age there should be no excuse for presenting this on one of Marvel’s greatest story arcs. I guess the new generation of chiefs on books like this don’t do enough to make a difference and wonder how to make more money doing nothing.
