Brian Flanagan (Tom Cruse) is a young, fresh out of the Army New Yorker looking for a marketing job. After many rejections for lack of any college degree, he decides to go to college. Needing employment while going to school, he is given a job in a tavern run by Doug Couglin, bartender extrodinaire, who takes him in and teaches him the tools of the trade - with flair! Soon, Doug and Brian are famous as the two best 'performing' bartenders in the business, with a large following. Both guys are having the time of their lives sleeping with as many women as they want, but a fight over a woman drives Brian away. Desperately wanting to open his own place, "Cocktails n' Dreams" but not having the money to do so, he takes off to Jamaica, to a Club Med type of bar where the action is fast and the ... They have a wild fling and both fall in love, but he blows it when Doug shows up. Doug had just married a young, beautiful but sleazy, very wealthy woman and was having the time of his life being rich. They were on their honeymoon, in their sailing yacht. On a bet with Doug, Brian made a pass at a glamorous older and obviously wealthy woman from NYC who was there alone. He picked her up, but Jordan saw him. Now she knows that the is just another 'pretty-boy' gigolo chasing money. Embarrassed by her affection, she left and went home. Brian, knowing he blew it, goes back to New York with the older woman as her 'Boy-Toy'. It doesn't take long for this to become a source of personal humiliation for Brian, and he splits. By accident he runs into Jordan who is working as a waitress in a local cafe. He desperately tries to apologize, but she wants nothing to do with him. He soon finds out that she is pregnant with his child, and he tries everything to make her forgive him, but she just won't. One day he follows her and she enters a very snazzy building of very high-end residences. When he finds out where she went he knocks and finds out that her parents live there and not only are they are filthy rich, but Jordan is apparently an heiress. He had no idea she came from money, but she has seen gold-diggers before and doesn't believe him. Her father offers Brian a lot of money to just go away, but he tears up the check and tells him that he loves her. He really is in love with her. Once again, Brian and Doug cross paths. By now, Doug, with his big ideas and no formal business knowledge, has managed to blow through all of his wife's money. Having no courage to tell her that through high living and bad investments he has squandered her wealth, he takes the easy way out and kills himself. Brian now fully understands the scope of his mistakes. After full contrition and finally convincing her of his love, and refusing anything from her parents, Jordan marries Brian. He takes over his Uncle's neighborhood bar and transforms it into his dream "Cocktails n' Dreams". Brian finds out that Jordan is having twins!

Current "classics"
This movie, for those who haven't seen it- is a modern day 'classic'. It's back in the day when Tom Cruise wasn't all about his religious beliefs... that being said- the man CAN act! He's a guy who has a job as a bartender in Jamaica and takes this bet with his pals about landing 'rich chicks' only to lose the one girl that he's fallen for & she's fallen for him too-(not knowing that she too is a 'rich chick'). They later meet up again in real life (not really- it's still the movie) where she finally has the extreme pleasure of dumping him once she tells him she saw him cheating on her with a 'rich chick'. The bar scenes are classic and I believe that they actually have contests of some sorts now (in real life) resembling the whole bar bottle tosses that originated from this movie. With ... Get this movie to add to your collection- you won't be disappointed and even though it's an 80's flick- it's definitely a new 'classic'!

Jamaican Romance 🏝
Love happens in the most unlikely places. This handsome New York Bartender (Tom Cruise) meets Elizabeth Shue in Jamaica while on vacation. It's love at first site, but Tom chooses money 💰over love and has to pay a price. This movie is one that is a must have from your DVD collection. See what happens when they both return to "Good Old New York". 🗽

Nice classic
Like I said I really like the classics Tom Cruise can play any role and he looks great always. I enjoy all his movies only in the movies I like him.

Old classic Tom Cruise
I absolutely love this movie. This back when Tom Cruise was in his prime, all good looking and charming. Elizabeth Shue is also a delight. She has Americas sweetheart written all over her. I also love Bryan Brown in this movie. I know him from The Thornbirds in this movie as well. The funniest best friend ever.
