In this sequel to BRUCE ALMIGHTY, newscaster Evan Baxter (Steve Carrell, THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN) has traded in the news desk for a post in Washington as a congressman. Though his campaign was based on the idea of changing the world, Evan drives a gas-guzzling SUV and spends more time trimming his nose hair than with his three sons. When he has a strange encounter with God (Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, reprising his role from the first film), God tells him to build an ark, just as Noah did thousands of years ago. Though Evan is skeptical, he finally accepts the task after being hounded by dozens of animals that follow him, two by two. By obeying God, Evan risks his family, career, and sanity--but will a flood actually come and prove him right?Though BRUCE ALMIGHTY boasted an edgier PG-13 rating, EVAN ALMIGHTY is a pure family affair. Its predecessor featured some sexual humor, but this is a squeaky clean film that kids and parents can enjoy equally. With hundreds of animals, poop jokes are inevitable, and they're worthy of a chuckle or two. With his roles in THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN and THE OFFICE, Carrell has capitalized on playing awkward characters. The (over)confident Evan is quite a change, and it's interesting to see Carrell stretch his comedic muscle. Though EVAN ALMIGHTY also features the talents of Lauren Graham (GILMORE GIRLS) and Coen Brothers favorite John Goodman, the funniest lines and delivery come from Wanda Sykes (THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE) and Jonah Hill (KNOCKED UP) as members of Evan's staff. Most of the film's jokes garner giggles, but the lines from this pair get guffaws.

Al-Mighty Movie
Evan Almighty is without a doubt the funniest movies I have seen this year, and one of the funniest I have seen in a long time. Steve Carrel's character, Evan, is elected to the US congress. Despite his family nagging that he needs to spend more time with them, he thinks everything is wonderful and sets out to change the world. Only, the very next morning after moving in, his tightly controlled world begins to fall apart. God wants him to build an ark and he will not take no for an answer. Steve Carrel was at his best. His achieved a perfect balance between being off the wall without being outright loony, a balance he has unfortunately lost in The Office TV show. In all fairness, his type of humor naturally wants to go out of control and it is difficult to put things in perspective. ... In all fairness, his type of humor naturally wants to go out of control and it is difficult to put things in perspective. Ask Jim Carrey. Morgan Freeman definitely needs to get more comedic roles. He was certainly inspired by George Burns playing God. He keep the good natured spirit George created and is able to come across as a best friend. Morgan is not just a carbon copy of George, however. Mr. Burns took a laid back and "see what happens" approach while Mr. Freeman is assertive and pro-active in his divine will. Comedy aside, I enjoyed the movie for the deeper themes. The most obvious theme was that God apparently decided to renig on his promise not to destroy the world with a flood again. This fact was conveniently omitted from the movie. But fundamentalists will sleep well at night to learn that it was not the world that was destroyed by the flood, but something smaller. This was the core of the movie. God several times tells us that "arc" stands for "acts of random kindness". It's not the earth shattering miracles that make a difference, its the culmination of little things done day to day that will make the world a better place. I also found it refreshing to see God pictured as an active participant in human life. One who doesn't make you a different person when you pray to him, but one who gives you opportunities to change yourself. Today, we live in a United States where a small atheist minority is actively taking away symbols of hope that the Christians, Jews and Muslims, who together make an overwhelming majority, revere. It hurts me to see democracy perverted in this manner. Industry and businesses are free from these restrictions. I am glad to see at least some filmmakers have chosen to remind us that God is still with us. The success the movie had in theaters also proves that people still believe despite the public censorship of religion. All in all, an excellent movie to watch that also has life lessons that everyone should take to heart. John Holland-author of The Necklace of Terrersylvanous

Great Family Movie!
A rare find! A wonderful family movie with humor and a good message. Highly recommend this modern day story of Noah's Ark. Steve Carrell does an excellent job in the title role, infusing it with humor and thoughtfulness. A great movie all around!

Entertaining
Very entertaining, kind of hokey in a way... but that's what makes it a comedy. The message, or lesson that the movie delivers is amusing yet powerful if properly explained to children. Morgan Freeman demonstrates his unique ability to play any role effectively and is one of the best actors of our time.

Enjoyable family friendly video.
Video about a new senator listening to calling from God, which portrays God fairly accurately according to my understanding (causes for the previous world wide flood reference not fully accurate) for Hollywood and has some funny moments. Not a rip roaringly funny DVD, but overall enjoyable flick if not taken too seriously. Good for a rental. One I would allow children to watch.

This is a excellent comedy movie. The movie is about a a congress man wanting to save the world. He is asked to build a ark by God. Throughout the movie there are numerous parts the will make you laugh out loud. This movie is not as good as the top of the line comedies, but you will want to watch if more than once. I would recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys a good laugh.
