This movie is based on the book of the same name, and it helps to debunk the idea that any human being has any form of superior right to exert authority over any other human being. The result of such thinking is always negative. God never speaks and therefore human frustration results in might makes right. The victors in battle always claim that God was on their side, but reality shows that human life is nothing more than an illusion that is carved out of ignorance and fear. It is then manifest by the brute force ideology of might makes right. Confused? See this movie or read the book and the penny may drop that there is no such thing as a victory of right triumphing over wrong because in the end the victors also perish. No human being has any inside knowledge of what we are doing on this ... On the other hand, all of Nature just gets on with the business of killing and never bothers to try and make sense of it. See this movie (or read the book) to get my point.

Even though it's an old film, I'm not sure that a remake could get better. The film is really different... If you've read the book you'll understand. If you haven't, there's little chance you will understand the film the first 10 times you see it - there's really a lot going on in it. Factual combat history, time travel, control, lack of control, rich, poor ... basically every contradiction you can think of rolled into one character (Billy Pilgrim). Definately check it out if you've got a strange side to your personality! This version was issued in 2004 on a North American DVD format.Even though it's an old film, I'm not sure that a remake could get better. The film is really different... Brilliant art-house movie,before art-house was cool. Based on the novel of same name by Kurt Vonnegut,Jr.,the tale concerns one Billy Pilgrim, who,for lack of better terminology,has become "unstuck" in time. He drifts uncontrollably from birth to death and all points inbetween, like his being a WW2 POW in Dresden days before that city was fatefully firebombed, or his being the sole survivor of a company plane crash,or living in a sort of zoo up on planet Trafalmadore. Excellent directing,editing, and the acting from A~ Z is top-notch,featuring Michael Sacks and Valerie Perrine. What an incredible,beautiful movie.Brilliant art-house movie,before art-house was cool. Slaughterhouse five
Had read the book in high school. Didn't see how it could be made into a movie, but boy was I surprised. Very imaginative version from director George Roy Hill, who did Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting. Wonderful addition to my DVD library.

The best movie you have never seen.
My favorite movie of all time.Very very smart and the perfect cast. You will never forget Paul LaZARRO after this movie,dark subject at times but funny. Well for me. Years ago,this movie was on every mid night showing along with Being there. A classic.
