State Songs - John Linnell
I bought it as a gift for my wife, who has been a big fan of They Might Be Giants for about 15 years. We have listened to it twice; we liked some of the songs, but none of them blew us away as being really creative. It seems like (at least at that time, 1999) Linnell was a very important part of TMBG but without his collaborator (John Flansbaugh) something was missing. This is a fun CD with 5-6 really creative songs (and a concept that, overall, is interesting), but it doesn't come out near the top when compared with TMBG recordings like Apollo 18, Flood, John Henry, and Factory Showroom. I have to admit that our expectations are high, but, in terms of liking every song from start to finish (which is pretty much the case with the four recordings listed above), State Songs doesn't match ... The beauty of 'State Songs'
Being a huge fan of the band 'They might be Giants'(TMBG) I had no choice but to buy this album. Written and sung by one of the members (John Linnel) it has all the TMBG-like qualities that some might look for outside of TMBG. it has all the great humor that the giants have, as well as all the awesome alternative music that they produce. If you like They might be giants, you MUST get this album. Compared to other Cd's, i wouldn't place this higher than their first cd's, But i would definitely put this on my list of things to buy before NO! and Mono Puff's 2 cds (John Flansburg's Side Albums). Perfect
Great kids songs that are fun for ADULTS TOO. Bought it because we love They Might be Giants other kids cd's. This one is for a little bit older kids but still good, and has catchy songs.

If you love They Might Be Giants you will love this. If you like them you may or may not like this. John Linnell is a great songwriter and these songs are a lot of fun. If you can find it for cheap it's certainly worth checking out. 4 Stars.

Heard one song of it and decided to buy the cd. Was very disappointed in what I heard. expected better tunes.
