Product Information

Acclaimed director Joseph L. Mankiewicz (ALL ABOUT EVE) sat in the director's chair for this 1958 adaption of a Graham Greene novel. Set in Indochina, the story centers around British journalist Thomas Fowler (Michael Redgrave) and a character known only as "The American" (Audie Murphy). As the country is gripped ever-tighter by the Communist uprising, the coupling find themselves in a battle over both their personal beliefs, and a woman whom they both desire and whose views they wish to mould into their own. Suspicion and intrigue ensue, with the two men doubting each others motives, and Mankiewicz allowing the film to burn slowly towards a surprising conclusion.

    The Quiet American

    Black and white that focused on vietnam's politic problems. Also the relationship of Audie Murphy and Vietnam girlfriend he meets. It's interesting but a little slow at times...almost for the intelletual/academic side for someone to analysis...some intrigue but usually it's predictable...It would be interesting to watch this older and newer version of the same title...if you like audie murphy watch it but there's not a lot of action and a lot dialogue..

    Wrong shipment

    I wish I could review this film. I was expecting the 2005 film, but I received the 1958 film. The 1958 film leaves something to be desired. The premise is interesting enough, America's early involvement in the Vietnam War. However this film could have been much better.
