How to do things you didn't know about--
This little lady lived a hard life! She saw this book as a true need to the country living lifestyle. She made a lot of sacrifice and determination to see this project through. I have the latest published copy of this book, I think 35 years from my earlier version, also before computer internet access. I remember mailing in letters and postcards for catalogs and mailing lists from this big catalog. Carla has since passed away, sad, but her legacy lives on. This is a detailed book, a real undertaking to such a great work. This is truly an enjoyable and fascinating encyclopedia.This little lady lived a hard life! Great Advice for Living Off the Grid
Carl Emery has done a superb job in preserving for us knowledge about living without modern conveniences, knowledge that was common knowledge to our forebearers. In this unstable world where anything could happen, knowing what is in this book could literally be a life-saver!

"How-to" Do Almost Anything...Country Style!
Carla Emery takes us along on the ride of her life...literally. While she is busily teaching us how to trim goat hooves, plant herbs, butcher a deer and keep chickens alive, she is describing her life--including the ups and downs. This book is from the heart and food for the soul. I have read it in its entirety several times, and I still refer back to it when I start a new page of my life and/or my mini-farm. Carla describes a practical approach to just about every aspect of a self-sufficient life. I give the book five stars!Carla Emery takes us along on the ride of her life...literally. The Encylopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery
This is a great book. A wealth of information. The author is very straightforward and she presents lots of resources. The instructions are easy to follow for most things. A great book to have if you are seeking to become self-sufficient, or even if you just want to bake bread and make soap!

The book Everyone should have...
This is the most fantastic book ever. My mother has the original book written by a typewriter that she got approx. around 1973-1976. If your into natural things and want to learn stuff from gardening to making cornmeal mush, country Survival, basic skills that most of us no longer know how to do, then this is the book for you. I feel better about myself just having this info around. Thankyou Carla Emery, and keep writing. Everything you know will save us all in the end.
