Trouble seems to follow know-it-all Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand) wherever she goes. This time it takes the form of Howard Bannister (Ryan O'Neal), a musicologist attending a convention where he's competing for a grant that will allow him to study the musical properties of certain igneous rocks. Judy pursues Howard despite his protests, and his overbearing fiancée, Eunice Burns (Madeline Kahn), begins to question his motives. To make matters more confusing, there are four identical plaid overnight cases circulating through the Bristol Hotel: one contains diamonds and jewelry, another holds top-secret government files, a third is filled with Judy's clothes, and the fourth, Howard's rocks. As the hotel detective tries to steal the case of jewelry, an agent hunts the man who holds the secret papers, while the last two suitcases naturally find their way into the wrong hands in this caper-of-errors. After a sidesplitting chase through the streets of San Francisco, the entire mess gets sorted out in the courtroom of a tense judge who just happens to know Judy all too well. Madeline Kahn's film debut, this madcap adventure is directed by Peter Bogdanovich (PAPER MOON, MASK).

The great screwball comedy of the 70s!
Fresh from his critical and commercial success with the Oscar-winning film classic "The Last Picture Show", director Peter Bogdanovich went into an entirely different area with his next movie; the sassy and clever comedy farce "What's Up, Doc?" Paying an homage to the classic screwball comedies of years earlier (particularly "Bringing Up Baby"), this film shits into many directions while being fun and entertaining all at the same time. The main focus of the story centers around four identical traveling cases, each one adorned with reddish-plaid lining on the exterior. Each case contains a variety of contents; top secret government documents, jewelry, women's clothing and rocks. The cast is one of the funniest ever assembled for any film. Pop singer turned actress Barbara Streisand (who had ... Kahn would later go on to appear in another Bogdanovich film "Paper Moon", which earned her an Oscar nomination. Look also for a small appearance from a very young Randy Quaid. There are several really fine stand-out moments within the whole structure of this production. Among the highlights of this film are the fire in the hotel room, the ensuing fight at Frederick Larrabee's home, the chase through San Francisco and the courtroom scene. What makes this comedy so much fun is how the sight gags flow at such a rapid-fire pace, and still remain consistent. "What's Up, Doc?", a landmark of 70s cinema.

I have been a customer both buying and selling for voer 10 years. As usual this purchase was as described in wonderful condition and the seller was of top quality as indicated. This movie is one of the best I ever saw and should be considered a must for all collectors. Truly a classic for all ages. I shall continue to make Ebay a daily stop and regard them as a real asset to the Internet experience. I have been looking for this Movie on VHS for a long time. It arrived quickly and was paxkaged great. It works excellent. This was a treat for myself my mom and my sister. It has been one of our favorite Movies. That is why I had to get it.

Hilarious if you like slapstick. It helps if you are a Streisand fan.
I bought this because I remembered it as a very funny movie. For me, my husband, and my 25-year-old daughter, it did not disappoint. My 29-year-old son-in-law, however, was not impressed. He thought it was too old-fashioned, and thought it was odd that we were laughing. Compared to other Babs comedies, it is definitely the funniest.

Perfect title for this movie!
This movie was a refreshing visit back to the early 1970's. I had seen it in the theatre but I had no idea it was my wife's favorite movie as a teenager. The movie spoofs are classic comedy and the car chase through San Francisco was hilarious. I can't believe that I waited thirty years to see this one again!
