Product Information

"Both creepy...and quite moving." -- New York Times Book Review "Wall's story couldn't be more timely." -- People Stolen Innocence is the gripping New York Times bestselling memoir of Elissa Wall, the courageous former member of Utah's infamous FLDS polygamist sect whose powerful courtroom testimony helped convict controversial sect leader Warren Jeffs in September 2007. At once shocking, heartbreaking, and inspiring, Wall's story of subjugation and survival exposes the darkness at the root of this rebel offshoot of the Mormon faith.

Wall's story couldn't be more timely. Her descriptions of the polygamous sect's rigidity are shocking, but what's most fascinating is the immensely likeable author's struggle to reconcile her longing for happiness with her terror of it's consequences., "Wall's story couldn't be more timely. Avis les plus pertinents

  • Stolen Innocence by Ellisa Wall, Lisa Pulitzer (2008)

I found this book very interesting. I have read a few other books related to the issue of polygamous families, but this one gives a different view. For one thing, it deals with the well known sect that followed Warren Jeffs as their prophet. Also, viewing marriage through the eyes of an unwilling 14 year old is very heartbreaking. You really find yourself rooting for Elissa Wall and hoping she will find her happily ever after. In any case, it is a hard book to put down. The story is fascinating and in the end, I applaud Elissa Wall for turning the spotlight on an issue of injustice that many people have no idea really exists in our day and time.

  • Very interesting book

I read this book as a pick for my book club, and I was not expecting to like it very much. I found it fascinating. It is well written, and a look into the lives of the polygamous sects of the FLDS, something I knew very little about. I think Elissa Wall is a very strong, brave young woman and commend her for putting her life out there for all to see, but also as a way of helping others who find themselves in her situation. This book is not only for people who might be interested in reading about the FLDS, but for someone who is interested in reading about women who overcome tremendous obstacles to live their true lives.

  • Stolen Innocence

Since reading "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop I have been totally entranced by strange and quite foreign to me day-to-day lives of members of the FLDS. Whereas "Escape" was written by a "wife" and "mother" in the FLDS and therefore gave that perspective, "Stolen Innocence" was written from the perspective of one of the children in the FLDS. This was a rivoting book, one that I could hardly put down, but in it's intrigue it's made me realize just how cruel this FLDS society is in it's brainwashing techniques and totally masculine self-serving principles.

  • Poor Editing- Too bad for the author.

I'm a very busy woman and in my free time, love to read. That being said, a book better catch my interest in the first two chapters or down it goes. It took everything I had to read to the 2nd chapter. Found myself frequently putting the book down to wonder off and do something else. I think the book's content is interesting, unfortunately the editor, in my opinion has done a poor job. There is too much detail placed on everything that takes place. You come to understand early on the difficult relationships between the "Mothers" but the author repeats this endlessly, as she does so many things, which in makes for boring reading when written like this about everything. Just my opinion.

  • Elissa is a BOLD young woman!

As incomprehensible as this story seems, it IS true. Thank you, Elissa, for telling your heart-wrenching story and I'm so happy that you were able to eventually find what GOD intended you to be, rather than what a self-proclaimed false prophet mapped out for you. I praise you for your boldness, even though it was painful. Your story has made an impact on me. Well written book...a must-read for anyone. What's really sad is that communities like this still exist in a free country.
