Cost-effective option to maintain landline number
I purchased this as a replacement for 3-year-old T-Mobile @ Home. While T-Mobile no longer sells or provides equipment, it continues providing service if you have the equipment. I have not experienced any compatibility issues with the previous internet provider (Comcast) nor the current provider (AT&T U-Verse). I also split the feed from the router to the phone back into the house wall jack thus making all the telephone ports/jacks in the house hot for additional phones. Although there are some shortcomings for this older equipment, some of which are described in other reviews, bottom-line is that this is a very reliable home phone service that includes voicemail (accessible anywhere), all typical modern features (call waiting, id, etc), and unlimited long distance for only $10/month ... I purchased this as a replacement for 3-year-old T-Mobile @ Home. While T-Mobile no longer sells or provides equipment, it continues providing service if you have the equipment. This router was great back-in-the day when T-Mobile launched the "T-Home" (or "T-Mobile @Home service"). I got the service around 2008, just before it was discontinued (then grandfathered by TMO), and have had this up until the beginning of 2014. I switched it out because Linksys/Cisco was no longer providing updates to the firmware. The last customized revision of the firmware was put out by T-Mobile/Cisco from 2010. I could no longer be sure safety was up to scratch with it, as it is no longer being updated for exploits like other router software made by CISCO/LINKSYS (OR NOW BELKIN-- WHICH SINCE TOOK OVER THIS PRODUCT LINE). Furthermore, support for this device is tough to reach/get ahold of now. If you have the grandfathered plan from 2008, (which is not possible to add any longer) ... If you have the grandfathered plan from 2008, (which is not possible to add any longer) when you dial- 611 using this device it will route you to the correct team in the USA which deals with these legacy products, **however**, without that phone plan, your 611 call will goto general mobile phone support overseas who will keep asking you "how many signal bars" do you have, and to "pull the battery on the back of your phone" thinking it is a mobile device. They are **clueless** about these devices from long ago because they haven't been sold in over 8 years. I made the mistake of letting TMO customer service (overseas technicians) administer my account at T-Mobile, I gave them careful instruction and without checking and verifying what they were doing with the legacy team they removed my grandfathered plan off this device. Thusly, thereafter I could never reach the specialized support for this device, I had to end up canceling the service a month or two later since I could no longer be helped with the device after my account got screwed up with a normal mobile plan. BEWARE. FAX machines connected to this device wont work on this device because T-Mobile wont invest in firmware upgrades to implement the FAX-over-IP protocol (known as ITU-T.38 standard) to the device. This device would be better if support were continued AND you could obtain the requisite plans now. Most people with the grandfathered plans now just try to stock-up on 2 or 3 of these so that if their current device malfunctions (or dies) they can swap it out quickly by inserting the SIM card into the replacement device. This device could have been better, if it could auto-reboot itself overnight whenever no Internet(LAN/WAN) traffic or phone calls were being made. That auto-reboot would allow it to keep a good connection to T-Mobile and remove the need to pull the plug every week or so to reset the connection, and also if the device could route a call at the same time to your mobile device and route the call depending which device (home or mobile) you answered first. WESTEL also made a UMA device like this but no idea if it ever made the light of day. If this device had competition it might have been made better designed.

Excellent service with shipping (Local) Product worked Bought to replace a broker router for TMOBILE at home service after 3 years.. WIFI works great on it. Router in general is a cheap linksys excuse for a phone service router. sim cards holders break VERY Easily (which i already knew) But that is only if you want to use it for TMO at home service.
