R.E.M. —"Around The Sun" Concord Records; The thirteenth studio album from R.E.M., released in 2004, it is now released on R.E.M.'s new label Concord. Around the Sun is notable for being one of the band’s more straightforward and polished productions. Though it was very much a protest album, focused around the American political climate at the time, and the ongoing war, the band took a delicate and mature approach to the songs. Includes “The Outsiders,” featuring rapper Q-Tip, and UK hit single “Leaving New York.”

    I say it's R.E.M.'s best

    I realize that "Around the Sun" is considered by many fans and critics to be possibly R.E.M.'s worst album. I, however, if I had to choose, would call it their best. The song "I Wanted To Be Wrong" is worth the entire album, an album that takes the listener along for an admirable, melancholy ride.

    Nearly Unlistenable

    R.E.M. used to be a titan among alternative rock bands. What happened??? Was Bill Berry that important? Obviously he was. This record is nearly unlistenable. The least focused record I have heard in a long time. Not only from R.E.M., but all bands. I love these guys, but this one is a huge clunker.

    REM still on

    This CD has great songwriting on a several songs, melancholic tunes and the detached feeling so typical of REM. Some of the songs are unamusing yes, but, Leaving NY, Electron Blue, Aftermath, makes the day. Im waiting for the Videos.
