    Description is wrong, but it's still a good player :-)

    Despite awfully wrong description that comes with a standard eBay listing (at this point it has a video game description instead), and false claims that its compatible with Divx or Xvid (it is not!), the player is still a good value for a buck. If you are careful not to overbid you could probably get it on eBay for about $45, while it would be sold in the stores for $70 or more (plus your local tax and s/h if applicable). I've seen it sold even for $99 or more... I think it would stay be able to play hi-res JPEG movies (MPG vs AVI), but I do not have any of those to verify that claim. Its been 3 weeks and I still have not figured out how to easily switch between FullScreen and WideScreen DVD. It is fine if you have a 4:3 TV -- you just pick LetterBox output, but when you have 16:9 you ...

    Great ebayer, confusing product

    Part of the problem is the instructions, which were written in "English" by someone in China or Japan. In other words, they don't always make sense. I've had this player for about a month, have had three people look at it after I tried, and still none of us can get the audio working. The video comes on fine, the audio is still a mystery. I'd return it if it were possible; looks like I'll have to continue looking for anyone who knows how to make the audio work. The Ebayer, however, was great to deal with, good communication, etc. I wouldn't recommend this product though. You get what you pay for. Better to spend more and have a reliable product with proper instructions.

    Excellent HD-Upscaling Player

    I've bought two of these DVD players and have been very pleased. I found the first one at a local circuit city on sale and purchased it for my parents. They had just bought their first HD tv and I wanted them to be able to see their movies in full 1080i resolution. The first movie we put on was Serenity and with this player connected by an HDMI cable it was an amazing difference. This player was so reliable that I have since purchased one for my apartment. If you're looking for a player capable of upscaling to 1080i you can not do any better than this for the money, but remember that you should purchase an HDMI cable with it. The only complaint I could level is that everytime you start a movie it defaults to 720P. It only requires one button press to switch over to 1080i but it ...

    Multi-Region Only Sometimes

    Let me state, for starters, that I like my HD860's. Both were bought used, one on Ebay and one on Craigslist. Both buyers advertised the unit as being capable of reading any dvd regardless of the Region. That does not appear to be true for either one; they will read some foreign dvd's, but not all. Some Region 2's work, some don't. Some Region 6's work, some don't. I have emailed Samsung Support about this twice and they simply stonewall the matter. But they're HDMI, so I use them for the Region 1's and have a multi-region player from another mfgr. that can be depended on to play all dvd's from all regions without exceptions.

    Samsung DVD-HD860 DVD Player

    very sleek and slim looking design. The one i bought off of ebay didnt come with instructions. So i press the setup button and switching to hdmi was pretty easy. I like the fact is has a hdmi and opitcal setup. My favorite feature is the upconverting of regular dvd's. It takes regular dvd's and convert them to high defintion. Very nice if you cant afford a blu-ray player.
