Product Information

This high-spirited spook show from producer-director William Castle features a haunted house populated by the record number of ghosts in the film's title. The plot has the destitute Zorba family initially delighted at the news they've inherited the estate of their recently deceased uncle. The trouble is, the uncle was a ghost collector, and now that he's dead the ghosts are running around the house without supervision. The Zorba family's absentminded professor father (Donald Woods) finds a pair of weird glasses that enables him to see the ghosts. Young son Buck (Charles Herbert) thinks the ghosts are pretty cool, especially the headless lion tamer and his ghost lion. Attractive daughter Medea (Jo Morrow) is marked for death by a flying Ouija board and is later menaced by a shambling corpse. The mother (Rosemary DeCamp) is harassed by poltergeists who throw knives and pots around the kitchen when she's trying to cook dinner. There's also Margaret Hamilton as the witch housekeeper, Martin Milner as the smooth lawyer, and a secret treasure. Robb White wrote the scream-laden screenplay. All in all it's more fun than a barrel of ghost monkeys and perfect Halloween fare for the whole family.

Read my Ghost Viewer feedback and just flip flop it ��. Either way, this DVD copy of "13 Ghosts" arrived quickly and on the same day as the viewer. It's the 60s and it's Saturday afternoon at the downtown Mars Theatre watching the latest low-budget horror, adventure, or science fiction flick. Good memories.

Great old horror classic ...
Saw this movie a few times on television back in the mid 70's when I was 7 or so and it always scared me and memories of it stuck with me for my entire life so I bought it to re-watch as an adult and it didn't disappoint! This movie has a great, classic, spooky story line with a good plot and special effects (likely top-notch for its day) that I still found enjoyable and am glad to have found it on DVD to add to my collection. Picture and sound clarity were fine as well. If you saw this movie as a youth, you are still likely to enjoy this great classic and it's fun to show today's kids what a horror movie with a real story line is all about. Fun Movie Where TV's 'Monk' Inherits A Spooky House
Tony Shaloub stars in this spooky tale of the price of inheritance. F. Murray Abraham also stars, playing the mad antagonist who struggles to gain immortality through a cunning capturing of souls, aided by his neurotic psychic assistant. 13 Ghosts has excellent horror movie production values and in reality, features the inherited glass-maze house as the star of the show. Perhaps you've seen the excellent horror-thriller movie The Cube, where the cube continually shifts it's walls to bring forth new torments to its visitors. The house in 13 Ghosts is very much like this, with a some 'Scooby Do' quirky family antics thrown in. While this DVD certainly has appeal to kids from ages 9-14, parents should be aware that some of the featured ghoul scenes are gruesome and ... Tony Shaloub stars in this spooky tale of the price of inheritance. F. I'd say definitely buy this DVD if you don't mind mixing genres. Not the best purchase for fans looking for a thrilling knuckle biting horror movie - try the Cube instead.

The Original was better!
As usual, Hollywood can not replicate the original. Although the newer version of 13 Ghosts was certainly MUCH better than remakes of some other classic horror movies (ie: The House on Haunted Hill) it still falls short of the dark atmospheric original. This may sound like I am going to offer a review of the Tony Shaloub film, but i'm not. I'm reviewing one of my favorite spooky horror films, the original B&W version of 13 Ghosts. By today's standards, the orginal 13 Ghosts may seem like a bit of a disappointment, but if your looking for a movie that will actually send a chill up your spine, this is it! It's a classic "Old Dark House" film. The special effects used for the Ghosts are dated & sometimes hard to see, but that just makes them ... As usual, Hollywood can not replicate the original. Reminiscing
First of all I'd like to point out: don't confuse the reviews here of the newer version of this film with the older version. It seems ebay has mingled them both in one area for some odd reason. The older version in no way has any blood or gore. Graphic blood and gore had little abundance when the original 13 Ghosts was released to the public........ Great old flick that I viewed during its original release in theaters as a child. I remember the Illusion-O viewers but for some reason thought it was in 3-D which it isn't/wasn't. That is further explained in the William Castle Special Features portion of this DVD. Back then with all the Illusion-O hype, it was a flick that you just had to see. Film is about a family that's down on their luck till the son makes a birthday wish that comes ... The father inherits a Munsters style mansion fully equipped with ghosts, flying meat cleavers and as an added treasure, the 'original' wicked witch of the West from Oz. Oh yea, let's not forget the pair of futuristic looking phantasma viewing glasses. Spooky events occur and the sinister plans of a greedy lawyer are foiled in the process. Clearly a classic with its reminiscent 50's/60's style overacting and some funny moments as well. Good to see that some of the ebay price hax have lowered their prices on this flick so more people will most likely enjoy this old classic of yesteryear.

Watched this years ago and it was just as fun to watch again. The disc itself was perfect and the picture quality was like new.
