Product Information

ONCE IN NINE LIVES, SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENS. The last thing Gwen Cooper wanted was another cat. She already had two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. Then Gwen's veterinarian called with a story about a three-week-old eyeless kitten who'd been abandoned. It was love at first sight. Everyone warned that Homer would always be an "underachiever." But the kitten nobody believed in quickly grew into a three-pound dynamo with a giant heart who eagerly made friends with every human who crossed his path. Homer scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease, survived being trapped alone for days after 9/11 in an apartment near the World Trade Center, and even saved Gwen's life when he chased off an intruder who broke into their home in the middle of the night. But it was Homer's unswerving loyalty, his infinite capacity for love, and his joy in the face of all obstacles that transformed Gwen's life. And by the time she met the man she would marry, she realized that Homer had taught her the most valuable lesson of all: Love isn't something you see with your eyes. BONUS: This edition contains a new afterword and an excerpt from Gwen Cooper's Love Saves the Day.

  • Great Read

This book is a great read. At first, I wasn't sure that I'd enjoy a book about a blind cat told from his owner's perspective. However, from the very first chapter the book caught my attention. It's amusing, easy to relate to, and offer's many adorable moments that any cat owner can relate to. There is also a lot of personality in the book, both from the owner and her cats. My favorite thing about this book was the way it was written. It is told from first person, which a lot of authors can't pull off well. This is one of the few books told in that point of view that I've enjoyed. Instead of breaking up the story, as I often find, this really brought you into it and engaged you as the reader. It wasn't a hard read or overly challenging. More the kind of book you curl up with on a ...

  • Excellent Story of a Remarkable Cat

I bought this for my 80-something mom; she loved the story! The only drawback is the raw language throughout. To a 20-something's ear, this likely wouldn't even be noticed, but to a person in a generation where 4-letter words were not a condiment you sprinkled liberally throughout whatever you said, it was somewhat offensive.

  • enjoyable to read

a friend recommended this book after she found out I had adopted a blind kitten. I enjoyed reading it very much. my kitten does't do all the climbing Homer did, but she is sweet and gets around great anywhere in the house. She has a friend a 7 month kitten I also adopted and they are getting along really well.

  • This cat is awesome!!

Normally I can't handle animals suffering, but Homer never really did--he more than handled his 'handicap'. The book is so full and rich with funny and amazing ways that Homer learned and how he responded to life with a big YES!! Ms Cooper wrote very well, taking the reader on an incredible journey and left us inspired to make the most of what we're given--and more! This book has been a gift to many friends and family.
