    Incredible Story Like No Other

    The Gospel According to Jesus Christ was my first introduction to José Saramago. It was an incredible story to follow. Saramago truly shines as a Biblical scholar in this book, as he does with many other pieces of literature. Jesus is a very compelling character in this book. Don't even give it a second look. I highly recommend this book as a way to think outside the box and to keep the mind open and sharp. 5 stars!

    Best read in years!

    First, I need to warn that this novel depicts a new and provocative interpretation of the life and psychological growth of Jesus Christ. Beautifully written, Saramago delivers one of the best accounts of the Gospel that I have ever read. He follows the life of Jesus from his conception to his development as a prophet, revealing deep knowledge of scripture, theology, and Christian biblical history. This is a perfect read for generating discussion, whether it be about religion or literature, or both.

    It is a skeptic's journey into the meaning of God and of human existence.

    Saramago won the Nobel Prize in 1998 for his unique style of writing that "commonly present subversive perspectives on historic events, emphasizing the theopoetic human factor." (Wikipedia)
