Synopsis
Celebrate Little House, available once again with the classic Garth Williams artwork gracing the covers and black--and--white interiors., Based on the real-life adventures of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little House in the Big Woods is the first book in the award-winning Little House series, which has captivated generations of readers. This edition features the classic black-and-white artwork from Garth Williams. Little House in the Big Woods takes place in 1871 and introduces us to four-year-old Laura, who lives in a log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. She shares the cabin with her Pa, her Ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their lovable dog, Jack. Pioneer life isn't easy for the Ingalls family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But they make the best of every tough situation. They celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do their spring planting, bring in the harvest in the fall, and make their first trip into town. And every night, safe and warm in their little house, the sound of Pa's fiddle lulls Laura and her sisters into sleep. The nine books in the timeless Little House series tell the story of Laura's real childhood as an American pioneer, and are cherished by readers of all generations. They offer a unique glimpse into life on the American frontier, and tell the heartwarming, unforgettable story of a loving family.

  • Little House in the Big Woods

What I like about this book, as well as the whole series, is it chronicles a very simple yet dangerous time in our history. I believe these books are written exactly how Laura Ingalls Wilder viewed her surroundings and lifestyle without flair and exaggeration. We see a very important part of history, the migration of settlers, from the eyes of an innocent child. These books are packed with humor, hardship and a way of life that is foreign to us in this day and age. They are extremely interesting in that they describe, in detail, how meals are prepared, how homes were built (without nails) and how each adversity was met with a determination to stay and prosper. I bought this book to complete the whole Laura Ingalls Wilder collection. I want to read these to my son, when he is old enough to ...

  • Wonderful Book

I found out about this book series from the credits of the television show based on it. Good morals, values and role models. Though for young children, I bought it out of curiosity because I love the show, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

  • Great books... Highly recommend these books....

Great vintage books. Nice holsome books to read to your son or daughter. My children love the Little House On The Praire tv series, so by purchasing these books it gave them something they really enjoy reading. It really gives them an idea how people lived and struggled in the past. It also teaches them just how important family, hard work, and church is. These books instill great family values. I highly recommend these books.

  • Little House in the Big Woods

I purchased "Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and I absolutely LOVE this book! It tells the story of growing up in the woods of Wisconsin in the 1800's, and how the family survived without the modern advances that we have today. I bought this book to share with my children so that they can also relive Laura's story of her childhood, and have a greater appreciation for the simple life without technology.
