Product Information

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * The third book in Diana Gabaldon's acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series. "Triumphant . . . Her use of historical detail and a truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer."-- Publishers Weekly In this rich, vibrant tale, Diana Gabaldon continues the story of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser that began with the now-classic novel Outlander and continued in Dragonfly in Amber . Sweeping us from the battlefields of eighteenth-century Scotland to the West Indies, Diana Gabaldon weaves magic once again in an exhilarating and utterly unforgettable novel. He was dead. However, his nose throbbed painfully, which he thought odd in the circumstances. Jamie Fraser is, alas, not dead--but he is in hell. Waking among the fallen on Culloden Field, he is concerned neither for his men nor his wounds but for his wife and their unborn child. Lord, he prayed passionately, that she may be safe. She and the child. It's a prayer he'll utter many times over the next twenty years, never knowing but always hoping that Claire made it through the standing stones, back to the safety of her own time. Safe she is, but believing Jamie gone forever, she's obliged to live without a heart, her only comfort their daughter, Brianna. But now, their daughter grown, she discovers that Jamie survived, and a fateful decision lies before her: Stay with her beloved daughter, or go back to search Scotland's dangerous past for the man who was her heart and soul, sustained only by the hope that they will still know each other if she finds him.

  • Among the best series I’ve ever read, not a single misplaced word.

If you love an epic romance, beautiful, rich language, period detail, and want to enjoy it in up to 10 wonderful books, then immerse yourself in the Highlands, in France, in America, and the rich history of the mid-1700s and mid-1900s. And then watch the TV series, and be thrilled all over again.

  • Journey into the past in this epic Scottish saga

I can not rave enough on this book and the entire series. The characters are so real to me now I expect them to walk in the room. This is a time travel book and is full of historical facts, events from 18th century Scotland. Gabaldon is very acurate of Scottish life in this time period. A romantic story full of love, hate, war, highland violence and intrugue. Language is moderate. Some sex, but scenes are not overly offensive. Characters are bright and vivid. Very LONG books, but they did end too soon! I Recommend all the Outlander books by this author.

  • Entertainment at your Fingertips!

I enjoyed reading the first 4 Outlander books when they first came out, but forgot about these characters until the Starz series hit the air. While Outlander showrunners and cast tell the story brilliantly, there are more intimate conversations and more of Claire's inner thoughts told in the book series. If you love the show, the books will add more adventure and depth to the story. I prefer massmarket paperback, but like the paper quality of older books. This copy was in great condition.

  • Gabaldon voyages on!

I really enjoy Diana Gabaldon's writing in this series. "Voyager" carries on with the story of Claire and Jamie Fraser. This installment in the series is quite wonderful reading because you want the two of them to be together and in the previous book they spent a most of it apart but together in flashbacks. The only thing I didn't like as much about this installment is that the time threads do seem a bit more unbelievable, if that is possible in a story like this. Gabaldon's books are heavy on history and place and light on "romance" which is just like I like my books. She doesn't flinch away from the ugly parts of history either. If you haven't yet started the series, pick up "Outlander" and then "Dragonfly in Amber". After you finish those, go for a historical voyage with ...
